Actually if you re-watch the evil containment wave scene; Roshi never missed; his aim was perfect; but sadly the wind generated from the technique caused the lid of the rice cooker to close just before King Piccolo reached it. So basically as Roshi is slamming King Piccolo down at the jar, just before Piccolo reaches it, the wind closes the lid and Piccolo hits the top of the rice cooker with the lid shut and that is what causes the rice cooker to flip and bounce sideways. Roshi thought he had missed; but again his aim was perfect and had the lid not been as loose or had he been a few seconds faster pulling off the move he would have successfully sealed Piccolo.

Think about it this way: they didn't retcon the move. The characters are just powerful enough to handle it now. Like how the trip beam killed tien against nappa, but he was able to use it repeatedly against cell

They weren't the same attack. The one he used against Cell was a new upgraded version. Also, he was severely injured when he attacked Nappa.

Piano, Tambourine, and Cymbal were retconned to be mutated Namekians because of King Piccolo’s evil energy. They are in fact Namekians, they are just mutated to look like demons and dinosaurs. Think of them as a Namekian’s interpretation of a demon. Spoiler ahead I purposely left out Drum because we’re not there yet.

I wouldn't say that he carries so called, "sleeping spray" in his pocket at all times. Remember they left the island and house knowing they were going to more than likely encounter "Evil Demon King Piccolo". As a master, you can only wonder and imagine that your pupils would probably do something rash or irreversible when presented with such a situation. Knowing also how his students are, i doubt that he misunderstands them therefore knowing they would take a risk to help him(Master Roshi) so that he would have a better chance of survival. So the sleeping spray at least to me, is understandable because he figured they might need to be knocked out cold. I know we all want to attribute it to his perversion, but i think a lot higher of him to attribute it to that. I dont know if he has that kind of capability within him to actually ACT upon such an opportunity if presented. He is fouled and haunted by his perversion, but i think if the choice were available of (Seppuku and His perversion) i think Seppuku would be his choice... But thats just my opinion.

Piano (the dinosaur person) is a Namekian cause King Piccolo is his father. As we saw with Cymbal (in the JPN dub at least) Piccolo can choose what his children look like before he gives birth, that's why they don't look like regular Namekians.

I'm talking in hindsight here. Also Piccolo and his spawn were never retconned to not be demons- there are specific in-universe properties to being a "mazoku" like them (those they kill don't pass onto the afterlife) and this is something that's still brought up in Z

Nope, he was called "mazoku" ("demon clan/tribe") in OG DB and he is STILL called that in DBZ- we just learn that the person he and Kami split from happened to be of alien origin. That doesn't change his nature as a mazoku though.

I think you being able to live or die by using the mafuba depends on the amount of energy you have to use the technique. OG dragon ball characters that used to were old and worn out so they probably had to tap into their life energy to perform the technique where in Dragon Ball super the characters are exponentially more powerful and can sustain the drainage of energy better

King Piccolo’s Children are Namekian, but they’re just different looking because they’re not intended to be another of him. King Piccolo thinks he is a demon and creates children in the form of demons. Considering that Piccolo can create clothes out of thin air, it’s nothing too surprising.

It was not retconned in super... I don't want to spoil anything, but later on it shows that you can survive the evil container wave you just have to have a higher form of energy reserves and power. This was established in dragonball itself.

The reason that the Mafuba killed its user in DB was because of their low power level. Obviously by the time Z and Super came around it was different. Even during the ToP Roshi could not use it multiple times for long. Each use drained him more and more. The Mafuba in DB was used as the ultimate sealing technique that required one's full life energy to complete.

I could be wrong, but I believe spirit energy and life energy are either one in the same, or intertwined somehow so to use one uses the other. And in my opinion The Evil Containment Wave uses Spirit energy to accomplish, because Roshi, and his master was so old and had human levels of life energy so the evil containment wave killed them. Later in Super they all have Much more life energy, so they can use it without dieing.

The monsters aren't Namekians, Toriyama hadn't plotted that out yet. But it's safe to assume that because Piccolo Daimao is the demonic half of Kami, he can create any demonic type of monster he wants. Also I don't think it was a retcon exactly in Super. I think it will only kill you if you are significantly weaker than the enemy or something. Tien survives it in this arc too

Trunks is a lot stronger than Roshi him surviving the evil containment wave is the same way Vegeta survived his self-destruction attack he used against Top the destroyer. It's the same way Tien was able to use multiple tribeam cannons against Cell and live.

*Did you see the Tien vs Roshi fight? They are really close in power. *Vegeta only self destructed once. It's not something you survive unless you can regenerate like Cell or Buu. *Tien's attack against Cell was different than the one he used against Nappa. He was also severely injured against Nappa.
