so happy to see a new content... will purchase the online course and go for the illustrator and concept art learning path next month, but i am so scared because i am almost 28 and if i take that course i will finish after 4 years ill be 32... and i am scared to be able to find work considering the fact that i live in south africa.... can i get guidance from the master or someone.

Hi! This is Travis Wilson here, one of the instructors at Watts. One of the nice things about the modern day industry is that there is an opportunity to work remotely, so regardless of your location, if you’re skilled then you should be able to find work. An important question to ask yourself is what kind of work do you want to do? Is it just character art, creatures, environments, or single image illustrations? Would you want your work to lean towards a more designerly look, like someone like Wylie Beckert, or something more grounded in principles of realism like Craig Mullins or Ruan Jia? Maybe, leaning more into fantasy painting like our instructor Lucas Graciano or someone like Kieran Yanner who have both done significant work for MTG. You can get by with top level drawing and painting, but working in a games or entertainment studio you might want to pick up sculpting and 3D as well to keep up with modern industry practices. It is okay if you’re in your late 20s. You really can start at any time. One of our instructors, Alannah Rose is just getting her illustration career started after working as a professional graphic designer for a decade. She just exhibited at Illuxcon this past week and had a ton of great work to show. You can do this, but it will take time, and the best thing is showing up every day. Write down your goals and attack them with all your might. Even if that means starting with 1 hour a day of practice. What will build your professionalism, employability, and a successful career will be showing up every day and working towards specific goals.
