Anytime I land krumphau it always leads to a full on fisticuffs brawl because once you’re that close to someone and your blades are tangled, you’re either delivering/receiving a knee, headbutt, pommel strike, or pile drive. However, you kept a good distance, and showed how to properly finish the counter with a good riposte. I appreciate this content and hope it’ll prevent some black eyes.

Very useful information! After seeing this, the text in the book makes much more sense, especially when someone is new in terminology!

hi, i have some questions about this cut isn’t it dangerous to let opponent’s blade placed underneath your blade while he is trying to cut you from above? i think it might accelerate opponent’s strike or cannot properly defend yourself.. anyway, thank you for wonderful demonstration, it was so helpfull!

You first take the sword from the side and then position it over the sword to lock it. You don't hit it directly from above, because I agree with you, it won't work. You also adjust your footwork, but you can see that clearly in the video.

Out of idle curiosity, what angle do you usually throw the krumphau on? We were always told that the point was to be forward, towards the opponent. You appear to be throwing it a good deal flatter - is there a reason for this?
7 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you want to do. Is your Krump defensive or aggressive? To control the blade in a defensive manner it is a good opportunity to strike to the sword. But it is also possible to strike directly to the opponent if my body is out of danger. Personally, i strike mostly to the blade with Krump to control the centergate :)

Yep this is definitely a progressive dance of death, I'm going back to the beginners technique and the 4 blocks because apparently it all fits together once you become a master. I'm just preparing myself for the conjunction of the spheres....and losing weight and building so much dexterous strength

In my club, we have two camps concerning master strikes. The first camp sees master strikes as something to defeat specific wards. For example, when someone goes into Tag, you throw zwerk to the opposite sid of their tag. The other camp believes that the master strikes are to deal with attacks coming from specific wards. For example, from tag, the most common attack is oberhau. When they throw it, you zwerk, catching their cut on your cross and whipping the tip of yoir zwerk into their head. Or if they thrust from pflug or langenort, you throw schielhau. Our thinking in this second camp is that its harder to react when youre in mid-attack, versus just in a ward when an attack comes at you. If you go to Tag and i zwerk before you attack, you'll block, but if you attack and i parry with a zwerk, i defend and attack in the same tempo and youre much less likely to be able to counter me. I dont see anyone talking about this, though. Have you discussed it in pro fighting circles, Bjorn?

One exception we have found is schietlehau vs Albert, the fool. If you're in The Fool and I try anything, you're likely to get me with that quick unterhau, basically every single time. So in this case, we decided that if you're timing is right and you can throw as they are going to The Fool, then you can snap that scheitlehau in there, but you have to use nach risen while he's transitioning to The Fool, otherwise, we find that even slower fighters can get you pretty easily. Anyone with insight on any of this?

@@ScottGrow117 Now the problem with defining or determining the master strikes is that they are so versatile. What do they have in common? Can they all be used indes? No, not all of them (eg Krumphau). They counter incoming attacks very effectivily? Yes they do...but don't other techniques do the same (eg Absetzen). The same goes for techniques to break guards (regarding meyer the thrust from Key is really good for guard breaking beside many other techs). Master strikes can do many things but are difficult to define in a certain way... What they do is connecting everything to a network. The Full spectrum of the art goes through the concepts of the masterstrikes. I briefly summarize my thoughts on this in the following video from 7:25 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKbTc2afrManldEsi=jG_lHQVdldZGKA9l

Something I'm still not understanding is when to choose the short edge versus the long edge when you have a choice. Great video though!

The names of guards and strikes, any good source or list? Wiktenauer I found really hard to navigate so I was wondering what manual these are from and where to find a summarized version of it.

Watching the video in the 1st minute it seems to me that this is makes no sense. You cross over the top and looks to pull the strike down. I would (as attacker) would just follow through and make a cut. Am I missing something??
@kylekillpack2272
@kylekillpack2272 7 жыл бұрын
No, it didn't make much sense to me either, till I tried it. Essentially you're forcing your opponent's momentum to terminate early by redirecting it mostly behind you, once that momentum comes to a screeching halt they're too far extended to try and power through. It's really hard to explain, but when you feel it, it all makes sense.

When you krump to the blade without crossing arms, is that the same motion as a ‘standard’ parry?
4 жыл бұрын
What is a standard parry? A very simple way where a static parry with a left-pflug like posture instead of Krump from the right with decrossed arms :)
@MikeKnell2884
@MikeKnell2884 6 жыл бұрын
It says to cut with a long edge and crossed arms. How is that done exactly? Because it's seems natural and intuitive for me to use crossed hands when striking with a short edge. And if you look at the picture with Meyerist fighters, it seems as though the fighter executing Krumphau is doing it with the short edge.
6 жыл бұрын
The pictures showing only a little amount of techniques. To Krump with crossed arms and long edge is very strong. Just push your pommel under your "leading" arm and bind with long edge. Hard to explain with words but easy in practice :)
@MikeKnell2884
@MikeKnell2884 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the fast reply. I didn't occur to me that the force for this strike should come from the back arm holding the pommel, so I was putting the primary focus on the front arm, which is why it felt kinda strange. When using the arm on the pommel to give force, you instinctively adjust your grasp with the front hand, which gives the impression that you've done the Krumphau with the short edge..
6 жыл бұрын
The front hand applys the force and the pommelhand is just to adjust the sword sideways. Depends on your knuckles you apply long or short edge to the bind. For example when you have knuckles facing forward to the opponent while striking "Krump" you come with the long edge into bind.

At the beginning, your Krumphau does not work bc your opponent is WAY too far for throwing his cut. Imagine he wouldn't know you are going to move fwd. Ergo, your steps and dynamics would (and should) be VERY different. Have a look at the work of "Trnavsky sermiarsky cech", and "Digladior - škola šermu". Cheers
