I still regularly come back to, reference & share these videos with my friends and partners. Whether we are trying to find organic & authentic ways of written character portrayal, posing & stance references for animation & artwork, or just looking to watch someone sweat, these Learn the Art of Combat videos of yours have become nearly indispensable for me. Thanks Björn!

Very well designed looking falchion I wonder if that style of feathering (if it is called that) has any specific differences. Looking at the geometry of the blade, it seems to be a better way of making them as you can have the nipped part be more extreme, leading to a better point for stab/pierce. What a quality sword, too bad I am but a potato farming pesant 🥹

Hello, I think it is a very good intrapolation. I have an a very similar sword comissioned (from SKokloster schloss in sweden) The blade is not quite the same. It has 100 cm lenght is as wide as type XVc (55 cm and 5mm thick it get thick to be 6.5 at 77 cm the tip is 4.5mm) and tapers to a re-inforced point but until it become diamond section (well ultra flatten diamond section, as is the rest of the cuting plan) it is closer to a type XVII. the hilt is 39 cm and a pommel 5.5. I handled the original, it is only 1850 kg and it is incredibly stiff and nimble.

hi, i have some questions about this cut isn’t it dangerous to let opponent’s blade placed underneath your blade while he is trying to cut you from above? i think it might accelerate opponent’s strike or cannot properly defend yourself.. anyway, thank you for wonderful demonstration, it was so helpfull!

You first take the sword from the side and then position it over the sword to lock it. You don't hit it directly from above, because I agree with you, it won't work. You also adjust your footwork, but you can see that clearly in the video.

The best game about pike and shot warfare is a turn based strategy game call pike and shot campaigns available on steam. However, an adventure of a single dude like in kcd wouldn't work well since the whole point of this style of warfare were the formations not the easily replaceble mercs.

Im living 3rd world country (Please forgive my bad English) which allows to carry none sharp long sword. it is very difficult to get one of those practice sword. But only Replicas. There is Japanese Kendo but I wanna learn Long sword but no school for long sword. I decided not to feel embarrassed practicing alone at park. Because I think even though I don't have teacher, still better than doing nothing. Anyway I let gravity control my long sword. Blade and handle is 135cm over 2kg its not heavy for me but when I attach sword on my belt, I'm 175cm tall, but it scratch my sheath of my sword by ground. I don't know how to wear the sword properly. In my State law, if wearing ancient martial art uniform Im allowed to open carry sword. Recently I got license for katana so Im also allowed to carry sharp long sword as well. But I carry un-edge sword for safety. To summarise my inquiries , I wanna know how to wear it on my belt properly, and is it good idea not to stop while swinging and combo move to strike attack move after swing round circle to provide confusion to enemy? Japanese sword is light to compared with long sword so they stop while swing but long sword using same method stopping swings by gravity might cause wrist injuries like, tunnel syndrome ? So I let gravity to control my sword and not stopping it while on air and I use combo move after circle strike I immediately do stab move with changing my arms and legs after I let gravity swings my sword. Jeez I can't write in English it's very difficult to describe what I wanna say. I hope someone understand this. Thank you in advance.

Theory: the flamberge blade not only increases cutting surface but allows better control of a pike/spear shaft.

It's just that you first look at a technology in isolation. Later you can add chaotic factors. What you must not forget... at the end of the day there are rows of soldiers on both sides, not just one...

Great videos. I recently started learning about longsword wielding, after starting my weapon journey with Pekiti Tirsia Kali. I bought books written based on Italian fencing techniques, but I recognize some of the guards in your video. In any case, I appreciate the narration and fluid images the video offers. I am subscribing to your channel.

Hey, I have a question. Can you disarm sb with bare hands by grabbing the sword or will you be seriously hurt while you try? In the Scene I have in mind someone threatens somebody, so he holds his blade still. The person threatened is supposed to grab the blade near the hilt when the other does not expect it, twist it around while thrusting it forward, so that his opponent loses balance and his grip on the hilt. The question is - is it possible without any gloves or armour on? It's important for the book I'm writing on.
Ай бұрын
In principle, it is possible to take a sharp sword without serious injury. Even without gloves or armor. Just don't wrap your hands tightly around the blade, but pinch the blade between the tips of your fingers and the palm of your hand.

I have a defy for you. Fighting with a weapon that is a billhook on below.then the long handle till chest or shoulder, followed by a wusu lance red hairs. After that, comes an axe head, part axe at front, part hammer behind(with spikes and a central big warhammer/crowbleak spike, surrounded by lesser spikes. At top of the haft, cones a lance head. Edge has 3parts first as flamberge, secibd at saw, third as normal. Flat walls of axe and hammer part are full of sone long spikes ,and edges in "sharkback"stile. And cilinder that joins axe and hammer is full of a libe of some long spikes (for tearing horses as they cross by your side) Borders/corners of hammer part has horizontal flat saw going out from it . Abd in spaces between edges on last part of walls of hammer ,goes a L shaped 2or3 spikes pointing large to out of the hammer hitting side Spear/lance top haft head is 4sides crossed. has edge in saw shape at first, in flamberge shape at second, in sharck back like at third, and normal at fourth. Curves up and down of the axe part has diameter of a wide nack, (for trapping people and moving it, or broke his neck),but full of spikes (conic or flat triangled). The axe-hammer head, where joins to haft and below wusu lance red hairs, goes twisted (or by "click" mechanism,)into a gap on haft, enough deep for the twisting marksAND space extra for hiding a some long chain. When you free the chain, the weapon turns into a two handed flail, the axe-hammer spiked, being the head. In adittion, the billhook has a kind of crossguard in SAI shape (like oriental weapon) useful for disarmings and spiking has too a click mechanism too into the haft. By complete one twist, At freeing it, reveals it is the real pommel of a dagger hided into. If you twist the pommel only half twist, a resort mechanism do jump edges (triangled or like shark backs) along the handle (3lines along or 4). This acts a security system in case someone in battle achieve hold your weapon haft hurting his hand.(or even the weapon is taken without letting. Little holes in flat sides of axe and hammer holds flammable oil. And even you can connect an internal wire from haft to metal head for electrifying it, doing fire and electric damage at time. And several very little rounded empties in 4 sides of spear head , holds a venom paste, poisoning the spearhead. Too the spearhead can be twisted out abd frees a very thin chain hiden on cilinder between axehead and hammer, and you have a "chain and spear" shaolin weapon

These techniques may work against a single pike. But as far as i understood, pikes more often come in dozens. Shoulder on sholder and in several rows. So if you evade the pike of the mam in the first line, you are in reach of the man in the second line.
