Wasn't surprised there would be negative reviews. When VI came out it too had negative reviews. I'm 3+ hours in and can't see what the fuss is about about the UI, seems fine to me. I know I'm going to sink many hours into the game, just as I did for Civ l, ll, lll, lV, V, and Vl Yes I have been playing Civ for 30+ years.

I played about three hours last night because the game released earlier than midnight. I was Hatsheput and Frederick was my neighbor. That dude had grudge against me or something lol. He declared war and sent the entire army after me. It felt so good compared to Civ6 were they'd send a couple units and give up

i made it to turn 3 and uninstalled and refunded, UI is dog shit, cannot look past it, a $99 game should not be so badly designed, especially after every other Civ game looked so great. the tutorial windows for example are too big, cannot be moved around, windows 95 had better interface. i am going to wait few months and see if they fix it.

The UI is that bad though. They didn’t make a pc game and then make console versions. They lowered the standard of quality for the pc version of this game which is the vast majority of where their audience is. You can tell it was ported over and they don’t know how to fix it. They have to literally rebuild the game for pc. It shouldn’t be cross play.

Honestly I like the UI. The black/silver/gold looks great on my TV and it's an 85in OLED so the last thing I want is a bunch of bright white menus burning out my screen & also blinding me.

I played my first game online with my brother last night. We played for 5 hours straight and went through the entire antiquity age. It was so much fun. The game feels very dynamic and interesting. I can't wait to keep playing more

Maybe it's because I didn't play Civ VI, but I was really tripped up by the fact the Great Wall needed to be built over populated rural tiles and could not be built over urban or resource tiles. Also was really tripped up by the fact that once you put down a sawmill, you can't get rid of it. And the game doesn't indicate to you clearly what tile yields you lose when you build over an existing building. And I can't really tell if there's any benefit to place to science buildings on the same tile? One big thing that also caught me off guard, I had a single coastal tile at my Capital, but because I settled a town with 3 tiles of it and grew towards that tile, and didn't have the Capital send it's own pop near that coastal tile first, the Capital forever lost use of it's coastal tile and could never build ships in the exploration age.

@ Played until Modern Age last night. UI is pretty terrible and there are a bunch of small things that need to be fixed. On their own they aren’t bad but when there are like 15 small things annoying you it adds up. That aside, the actual systems and gameplay is amazing. I loved the new settlement system with towns and cities, warfare is really fun, I really liked the treasure fleet mechanic in the exploration age. Leaders being decoupled from civs is actually really cool with so many combinations, the only thing is right now there aren’t enough civs to fit all playstyles. I wanted to have a tundra play through where I try to become master of the tundra but there isn’t a tundra civ for 2/3 of the game so it makes it hard. I’ve already typed so much so I’ll leave it there for now but overall very fun and I think the foundation is excellent. They just need to fix that UI and add some obvious features like earth map and larger map sizes more settings etc

I've been there since civ 1 - I lost a bit of interest since civ 4 but this edition really rekindles it based on 10 or so hours of play so far - this is a really interesting addition to the series - commanders in particular changes a lot of things for the better plus a lot of micro management has disappeared. Splitting into ages actually helps maintain / develop interest as you get to the mid game. I never really cared for civ 6 - this edition is much truer to the spirit of the series and addresses some long time shortcomings. Really impressed so far - one thing I do like about the UI is that it is much easier to get to fundamental info than previously

Love the way they allowed you to carry strength through every age im only sore that Germany isn’t a modern era civ yet which I get it we have prussia but I would love to have Bismarck added as a call back and maybe give the German civ tiger tanks again I always thought that was so damn cool

I liked my first attempt with antiquity age, as Hatshepsut with Egypt. Managed to complete Economic, Cultural and Scientific to golden age and Militaristic at regular age but just one tier. I like the new mechanics and the game flow loop but UI leaves a lot to be desired.

I was kind of wary because of the reviews, but I bought and downloaded the game anyways and I've so far put about 5 hours into it. It's definitely a bit different with the new ages mechanics and how the world opens up as the ages progress, but I like it. It's still too early for me to make any sort of review but I'm having fun so far. I am watching guides though since my current play through I'm at war with pretty much the entire world and I don't know what I did.

No they did. All of the play testers hated it. But they made a console game and ported it to PC and now they don’t know how to fix it. The game is so limited menu wise and customization wise because the “launch on consoles and pc day 1 with cross play” really hurt the game overall for pc players. It really sucks because the game itself is so good.

@@SS0895 I don't disagree with you. I play it on my steamdeck and it's still worse...but they definitely were trying to make it for console first. It looks way more like civ revolution (console only game) than any of the last 3 mainline civs or even beyond earth. It's just sad because as I keep reiterating...the game itself is just so good but missing SO MUCH that every other game had. You can't even rename cities. No quick movement. Basically no customization at all for matches. Hoping for good patches or someone who's good at modding to fix it.

I played a couple hours before work and only issue i had was when the city state babalon joined my cities i had it in my color palette and could do whatever but the name was stillcthere from original city state color palette even though it said they were defeated on the side. I think Firaxis lost the plot. I feel like the Civ switching and disconnected leaders are lazy way to shake up gameplay between ages. I would prefer if they had less Civs, but each civ changed in each era. So for instance you have the Franks in Age one, France (Bourbon/Ancien Regime themed) in the second, and French Republic in the third. Each one could have a unique unit and building. I do realize this is a lot of work, but if they had less civs it seems possible. Also let me remind you this game took like 10 years to make and costs €130. I legitimately can't understand what they were doing for the past years in order to deliver such a bare-bones and unfinished product.

I ve started multiple reviews of the game and I find myself loosing concentration every time. It is just boring. Also, those reviews are best played at 0.9 speed because they are either high or edit the playback speed before uploading. So annoying. Like civ 6, it's the same loss of artistic value compared to civ 5. It's aimed at a younger public with more need for visual pleasure at every mouse click than tactics . Imagine the music of civ 5 was based on and recorded by true choirs and bands of the matching civ. Compare that to this...product for the masses. No the peak was civ 5 and there is still a huge amount of players for that after 15 years. Can't blame firaxis for not reaching that level, can blame them for not trying.

why does every Civ 7 game i watch on KZbin feel so samey? The maps feel so repetitive. Have played four hours today and don't have any desire to play any more. There are some great things about the game, but it feels very limited and very restrictive - almost like I am not playing the game just clicking option A or B at each popup. I tried starting multiple games the past hour and the maps all feel the same - similar shape, similar early game. On top of this the UI is wildly bad - this is due to it being designed for console and it feels like it. Great big buttons, all useful information stripped (decluttered) and any options that would be beneficial for PC but NOT console have been removed. Truly wtf. It is not a bad game at all, it just doesn't really feel like what you would expect of a Civ game. I feel disappointed with Firaxis.

because currently game has only been reviewed by people who got it for free. they cant say a bad word, or they dont want to because for the next few months this game will be their work. honestly the only honest review ve read was in eurogamer where they gave it 2/5 and you can see that the reviewer likes this series. this game is civilization: console edition - simplified, shallow, smaller and for stupider people. even the developers themselves said that 'people dont finish civilization'. for some reason its bad. that's why you only have eras now and each one resets the game. its like playing 3 games in one, because most people are too stupid and have too little patience to handle the full game before civ7. and they care about as many people as possible, because they want to push dlc for years to come. next month two paid dlc.

I'm in the early stages of the exploration era on my first game, got maybe 10 hours under my belt. So keep that in mind with my impressions. 1. The interface/UI is terrible. It looks bad, is confusing, and feels very rough/unfinished 2. The game is a lot less straight forward than previous games, with mechanics and concepts that are not readily understood 3. The AI seems to have improved a bit from previous games 4. Pacing seems a bit off, amount of time taken to build/research things feels odd. (may just be my inexperience) 5. Core gameplay seems very compelling and thought out Overall I think it has the bones of a great game but the surface level stuff needs way more work to be finished.

Seriously this game is dogsht and people defend their founders edition pre-purchase. Now people are just refunding the game. £119 x God knows how many people bought it and can’t even change resolution UI scaling?? Largest map is.. standard?? UI it self made for mobile on a PC game?? Navigating through menu options suck. This is genuine robbery. The gameplay itself is great that’s it. Everything else sucks. What’s next? Large maps and huge maps will be in an ultimate edition for £170. New UI changes will be in an addon for £40?? Loyalty add on for £30?? Super duper edition for £199 includes all fixed?? Straight robbery. No quick combat and movement?? Super low. I’m disappointed in the devs.

Civ 3 was my first and favorite civ game. These new ones are confusing and makes the game dull and boring. The magic of entering an age with a small animation and the leaders cloths changing is what's missing from civ. The magic is gone.
