Hi, how are you I hope you are safe and healthy ☺️❤️ I am new here and I found the channel sooooo useful please please answer my question about flap t it makes me too confused because I don't know if it is like an arabic letter R or not BTW I am an arab, some words which have flapt is exactly like r for example water, better... etc But other words which have R+T +vowel sound like party don't sound like r but sound like d

Hi! Welcome to my channel - I'm so glad you like the videos! Thank you for your question about the flap! As I understand the Arabic R sound, it is usually a trilled R, but it can be a single flapped R in certain words. ("Single" meaning that the tongue tip touches the roof of the mouth only one time.) That is the sound in the English word "water" - a single, flapped R. So yes, if you are pronouncing the Arabic R as a single, flapped R, then it is the same sound as the flap in English! The word "party" also has this same flap - a single, flap of the tongue tip to the roof of the mouth. It isn't a D sound - the D sound is too heavy, and it has much more of a "stop" portion to it. The flap is light and quick. So the words "water" and "party" have the same flap sound (not a D sound). I hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions :)

Hello, you said California is is the (or) stressed , and is the letter l dark and interdental. I feel the r in California week not like in the word ( orde) is that right Thank you so much great video.

Hi! Thank you for your questions :) 1) Is the OR stressed? Yes, the OR vowel is in the third syllable, /ˌkæl.əˈfɔr.njə/, and it has the primary stress. The first syllable "Cal" has secondary stress. 2) Is the letter L the Dark L? Technically, yes, the letter L in "California" is the Dark L, since it comes after a vowel at the end of a syllable. But it doesn't feel very "dark" because the vowel that comes before the L is the front, open vowel AA /æ/, so the mouth is more open and the tongue is more forward when you say the Dark L. It feels much closer to a Light L. 3) Is the L an interdental L? The L can be made with the tongue tip between the teeth, or the L can also be made with the tongue tip up at the alveolar ridge. So, this can go either way :) 4) Is the R in "California" weak? I agree with you that the R in "California" feels weaker or easier to say than the R in "orde". I think it's because of the sound that comes after the R. The transition from R to D requires there to be more tension in the mouth/tongue as you say the D sound, so "orde" maybe has a stronger R sound. My mouth feels much more relaxed as I transition from the R to the N in "California", so maybe that's why the R is weaker or more relaxed. If you put a D in "California" in place of the N - so you say "Califordia" - you'll feel that the tongue has to tense up a little bit more for the D sound. I hope this helps! And I'm glad you liked the video! :)

Hi @english5892 - Thanks for your question! I don't have a video on the /ɔ/ vowel by itself because I don't use it in my accent. I include it in the OY diphthong and the OR R-colored vowel. I hope this helps! :)
