Correct me if i am mistaken, as far as i know not the second but the first one is called as "short vowel /ʌ/ as in cup, cut,but, etc." The next one is schwa. Also, there is no any schwa sound on the word result, it must be corrected as /ı/ sound on the first syllabus.

I went to the comment section to find corrections on the statement that /ʌ/ sound is related to the schwa, I was starting to worry that I had been lied to at university when we studied English sounds, also I started questioning "Pronunciation in use" book where the schwa sound has only the unstressed form and /ʌ/ is on its own. I was happy to find your and others' comments on this topic =)

Is that really a schwa? I think that schwas cannot be stressed - meaning that the unstressed would be the schwa and the stressed one isn't a schwa but simply a short U sound. Right?
