Wavetables? Using this term in this context might be a little bit confusing, I believe.You are not doing anything related to wavetable synthesis.
@HiJackMusicChannel3 жыл бұрын
I did some reading and it appears you are correct! This is a common misuse of the term, where the use of single cycle waveforms for sound generation are sometimes referred to incorrectly as wavetable synthesis. Thanks for the clarification! It's a bit too late to fix it in this video, but I'll keep that in mind moving forward. Thanks for stopping by!

@@HiJackMusicChannel you can use the individual waveforms from a wavetable if you set the start and end point and then do the necessary tuning.

What hes doing is called PCM synthesis. Pulse Code Modulation where the oscillators source is a sample

This turned out to be an informative comment thread, much appreciate it. I think if he would have set the play back of the layers so they play individually in sequence maybe with the help of an arpeggiator then that’s more alike to wavetable synthesis. Am I thinking of that correctly?, I’m new to the subject
@Paul_Y_T3 жыл бұрын
@@RobertSaxy That would give the same effect as stepping through waveforms in a wavetable - but normally that would be done while a note is held down and the modern wavetable synths would smoothly transition between the waveforms rather than hard-stepping.
@Curious_Skeptic9 ай бұрын
I was so happy to see this subject being addressed. You can also 'wave step/sequence' as well :) I see some folks got all tech of the terms. LOL. You can actually make a single sample with several different unique sounds in one wav file. Setting start and stop points and even adjusting those fine points is all doable. In all cases, you have the makings of a custom wave synth. You are setting the oscillation wave form (custom in this case), envelopes, and filters. That's the main parts of a basic synth! All built in to the basic sampling functions of MPC.

Even though it’s not wavetable synthesis, it’s very useful to be able to load single cycle waveforms and use them as oscillators, so thanks for showing that. I would also like to see a video exploring the capabilities of Hype’s wavetable synthesis.

I'm glad this was helpful! You are right, now that we have true wavetables I have been planning on making a video exploring what they bring to the table. The Hype wavetable oscillators are capable of a lot of very interesting and textural sounds...

Definitely great content and very powerful Thanks for helping us out with some cool insider stuff. The mpc is so powerful but doesn't do justice showing its full power. My jaw was dropping when I started to realize what you cann do with this! So cool 😎

Even if its not wavetables per se it really reminds me of the process with a Digitakt only this gives you polyphony and longer sequences. Only a decent step sequencer lacks in the mpc.

I can imagine most don't because you already have a quite a few synthesizer options available on your MPC. You can get alot of mileage out those before having to operate on pcm files. I might try it one day but I'm getting what I need from the Hype, TubeSynth, Hybrid, and Odyssey synthesizers at the moment.
@matthewgaines103 жыл бұрын
Knew you could do this but with the Hybrid, Hype, Odyssey, and TubeSynth on board, it's not something I haven't felt the need to jump into yet. I haven't even scratched the surface of those yet.

Btw, would be so cool if you could have per-layer envelopes.
@HiJackMusicChannel3 жыл бұрын
That would be great! I haven't tried this... but you could put each of your waveforms on a separate keygroup track, then open a midi track which sends to the first keygroup, which sends to the next keygroup, etc... That way, you can control your wavetable creation with the midi track, and have full control of each waveform separately! In other words; Track 1 would be waveform 1, track 2 would be waveform 2, etc. The last track is Midi, set to "SEND TO" track 1, track 1 is set to "SEND TO" track 2, etc... This would give you a complete track's worth of settings to manipulate for each waveform! I'll have to try this when I get a sec, thanks for getting the gears spinning!
@sinewaymusic3 жыл бұрын
@@HiJackMusicChannel Wow, this type of internal rewiring via midi is something I haven't even tried yet. Do you even need that final midi track or isn't it enough to set one track to "send to" the next one? Anyway, thanks for the tip, I'll give them a try for some really advanced sound design! This would be perfect for those cases where you want to start with one sound and morph to something fatter with the same midi notes playing (without having to duplicate those things).
@AUTOxMATIK3 жыл бұрын
@@HiJackMusicChannel did u try it
@HiJackMusicChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@AUTOxMATIK I did give it a shot! You don't need the MIDI track, but it seems to have a problem stringing together more than 2 tracks via sends. I landed on using one key group to send midi to a second key group, and split the waveforms accordingly. The benefit though, is that if you are using 4 waveforms you can split them into 2 tracks with 2 waveforms each. If you plan out your low and high frequencies it can be pretty powerful and separating out your 4 waveforms onto 4 separate tracks most likely wouldn't give you too much benefit over 2x2. Thanks for following up! Give it a try, internal sends are most likely much more powerful than we give them credit for, and combining them with creative submix usage opens up a whole new world of sound design given the extra inserts. Thanks for stopping by!
