Acorn are great lathe projects. Nature provides so many sizes and shapes, short, fat, tall, skinny... that it's hard to get one wrong. I was playing at the lathe one day, call it skewdling, and made several acorn boxes. you can use one wood throughout, or use a darker wood for the cap. My wife carries one as a pill-box in her purse. Her friend fell for it and requested one of her own. My wife took two samples for her friend to choose from and when her friend could not decide, my wife gave her both of them. The Acorn pill-box gets frequent notice, I don't do craft fairs, but I suspect these would be fast sellers. Making these small boxes is a great way to practice making a "proper" fitting joint base to top. You might end up with a little bit of scrap, but you are perfecting a skill in the process, I think it was Richard Raffan who talked about how much a great fitting lid will add to the sales price of a turned project.

Very cool projects. Liked seeing the different finishing and texturing techniques. I found that I really like making acorns after watching some of your acorn box videos when I first got into turning several years ago.

I think the embellishing has been the most fun. The acorns make quick practice pieces for dye and wax. Even pine 2x4 scraps do well for acorns.

Cool project Mike, thanks for sharing. What is your formula for the wax and mineral oil paste compound Take care Cheers Harold

Thanks. 1 part wax to 4 parts Mineral oil by weight. Vary to get the consistency you like. I have a video on making some as well as the abrasive paste.

Be a lot better with a voice over. Vacuum is completely overriding the audible. Nice project though.

This video seem not as well done as others. Need voice overs, and glare of light on some parts. Never understood you. I have enjoyed all most other videos.
