Jaxx Drinkwater takes an in-depth look at the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560 charcoal grill. All opinions of the Masterbuilt 560 are my own. I do plan on doing other videos on the Masterbuilt 560, after I've had several cooks under my belt. Check out my blog for some awesome recipes. www.thebearded...

What keeps the fire from crawling up the load of briquettes? Does it only burn at the bottom? Does it drop the briquettes into a fire pit? If you don't use all of the briquettes, do they collect moisture or do you have to empty it every time. Best review I have seen so far, good job Jaxx. I have seen guys reinforce the top lid because it was breaking out on them. They also put a channel on the back side above the grease tray to keep the water out if it is on a deck or something. They fixed that issue on the bigger model.

Think of it like any other charcoal grill in regards to how briquettes or lump burn. Like you might set up a grill for a low and slow using the snake method or the minion method. As it burns from the bottom and the briquettes become ash, the ash falls into the ash pan and gravity pulls or lets the unlit ones move downward to be ignited by the still lit one's. I can't answer your question on the moisture concern as to this specific grill because I have not tested that yet. That being said, I extinguish my Weber Kettle, WSM and My Kudu grill by cutting off the ventilation to them and have never had any issues. I do expect this grill to work in the same way. Do keep in mind that all my grills are kept under a covered patio and never exposed to the direct elements. Thanks for the questions man. I would have loved to have addressed that in the video.. I will definitely have to do another video after i have used this a while.

I was going to get a new Pellet grill to replace my old one I bought used, but came across these. I am leaning this way now. I do have a gas grill, and Weber Kettle, actually have an electric smoker too. This could replace two grills for sure. And Charcoal is already the best flavor, but kind of a pita. This is about the most in depth grill review I have seen. You're like the Doug Demuro for grills.

I owned my Masterbuilt 560 for 7 months now. I wanted the 1050 but couldn't find one last June. I have a 36" Blackstone so I didn't need the MB 800. This pit is awesome! I get my charcoal taste good smoke rings and it's low maintenance compared to my Weber Kettle. Like the Weber only use the right amount of charcoal for your cook. A full hopper will go 9 hours at 250F. Use the middle rack above your water pan for long smokes. On long smokes if you use the bottom grates move the meat so you maintain even carmelization. The right lower half will be a little hotter than the left. If you had a fatty cook previously then scrape the heat diffuser roof and bottom drip pan if you're planning to do a 700F reverse sear or a wood fired pizza as it might start a grease fire. Buy the heavy duty cover. Yes it's $50 but it's worth it! If you want to know more reply me

I believe opening the lid does not break the connection, but it does block the ability to remotely control the temp until the button is pushed, so you can still see the status remotely, you just can't change any of the settings. The safety idea is to eliminate the possibility of a control conflict between local and remote users.

Good review Jaxx! I remember us looking at this model at the Expo in New Orleans as well. Very well built and especially for the price point! I've watched a number of videos and it delivers great food. I think this is a game changer! Congrats on getting it brother, I know your gonna put out some awesome stuff using it and I'll be watching!

Hey Rus, I'm really looking forward to banging out some good eats on this thing. It was pretty impressive at the expo. Obviously it's not a thick metal beast like that of a LSG or other custom made grill . They told me they were going for convenience, affordability and trying to make it an everyday grill instead of just a weekend grill. In my opinion it's hard to hit all the marks and still make it affordable for people. I seriously think they Masterbuilt nailed it and you are right it is a game changer.

Hello, I'm interested in getting this masterbuilt and have watched lots of videos. But noticed that the back panel is open for the smoke to exit. Is there a cover or anything like that? Some of my smokes go overnight and in the rain and dont want water in there.

I cooked on Weber Kettle for 38 years. I used to have a offset smoker. I never thought anything would pull me off my Weber. I bought this MB 560. I keep my charcoal/hardwood taste but now I get solid temp ranges from 165-700F. A full hopper will last 9 hours at 250F. When you're done cooking it burns too much fuel afterwards. The work around? Only fill the hopper with enough charcoal for your cook. Just like your Weber. Pellet grill/smokers can't match the taste or the smoke ring IMO. At $500 it's a big decision. I also spent $50 for the heavy duty cover and I bought the extra racks. This year I will buy the rotisserie. If I had to do it all again I would buy the MB 800 or MB 1050.

I own the 560, and the large vent in the back is no problem at all. There's a diverter flap on the inside, so unless it's raining at a 45° angle, it's not an issue. And even if it were, big deal, it keeps your food moist. The best part about that long vent in the back is that you can Spritz your long smokes without opening the lid and losing all that precious heat and smoke..... Buy it, you won't regret it.

We live in a day and age where almost everything is made in China. Saying "But it's made in China" is like saying "But it's made of plastic." So is life. That's just the way it is. I always try to support Made in the USA, just like I try not to buy unnecessary plastic, but you can not always avoid it.
