Thanks for the demo. I'm usually not an early adopter of new products. I am anxious to see how these types of grills/smokers fare over time as I think I might prefer something like this over a pellet stove. But for now, I'll let the barbecuing pioneers dodge the arrows and deal with the rattlesnakes. With all the bells and whistles on this model, I am a bit surprised Masterbuilt didn't add a slightly more advanced way to start the charcoal such as an electric or low-pressure propane burner of some type.

I see people reinforcing the top lid on the hopper because the hinges are cheesy and they are also putting an angle iron on the back over the grease tray to keep the water out if they are storing it on the deck. I wish Masterbuilt would address this so I did not have to do it myself. I would love to have one of these 1050's even if I have to tweak it myself because it will stay out in the weather a lot. What is the actual purpose of the grill stops to prevent airflow to the charcoal or from the charcoal? It seems like you remove them to start the flame, keep them removed to cook. Are they just there to make us feel like we are doing something?
@AtlantaGrillCompany4 жыл бұрын
Those stop airflow in and out of the charcoal chute. You remove them when you are ready to start the fans so the fan can control the intensity of the fire during the cook. Thanks for the Vid. I have a few questions, please. 700F is mighty high. What is the lowest temp setting? Do you have problems with hot spots? Does the constant air flow from the fan dry out the food? Is this a better smoker than a grill? How well is it for grilling steaks, brots, burgers, vegies, and pineapple? Do I need to get a smoker and a grill? is this great at both, or not the best at either? Is there room for a water tray below the grills? I've read that smoke from fat is a carcinogen and you noted that the fat drips directly onto the heat source. I'd like to request a comparison video from an expert like yourself on the differences, similarities, strengths and weaknesses of this compared to a grill and a BBQ. If a grill is where the heat is directly under the food, then is this technically an BBQ and offset smoker? Just trying to learn the language. Thanks

This is the most economical Gravity Fed Charcoal smoker out right now. Its ONLY competition is the Old Country Gravity and its $500.00 more than a 1050 and they are the same size! The Old country is built heavier but has no fan or bluetooth ap etc but its a hellava good gravity smoker that weighs 100lbs more FWIW The Reviews all over You Tube for BOTH speak for them selves and there are aftermarket upgrades already being made for the Masterbuilt! Its kinda a game changer! (as much as I hate that phrase) it applies here! Its Chinese made designed by Masterbuilt USA so that is most of the savings. The Old Country is USA Made on the Mexican border in TX, So its (welded by Mexican /Americans ) if that matters to you. The Old Country is a relative bargain compared to an ASSASSIN which is $2600.00 for roughly the same size Gravity smoker.

If you are like me, and love the flavor of charcoal grilled meat, do NOT buy this grill. The charcoal is merely your heat source and your meat is never exposed to direct heat over the coals. Reverse searing results in some minimal charcoal flavor, but high heat grilling like burgers or chicken breast, absolutely NO charcoal flavor. That's why all of these videos they use so much seasoning or rubs. So if you love the taste of charcoal do not waste 500.00 dollars here, stick with your Weber Kettle. Sorry guys

I notice on a lot of the videos of folks using a masterbuilt they're a heavy applications of rubs. I'm a SPG only griller. I don't like to smother to charcoal flavor with rubs. I love the grills easy of operation. Love its temperature range. Love to sear at 700, miss the charcoal taste from my weber. I'd love any ideas or recommendations.

@@michaell31 I think the only recommendation I may have is to stick with the Weber. I certainly would not cook on a grill where I didn't like the results. I am all about cooking on whatever you like best. I have cooked on a lot of different grills and smokers. You may be the first person I have encountered who didn't like this one. Out of everything I have and have had in the past, this one produces some of the best flavor profiles of all of them. That being said, TASTE IS SUBJECTIVE. We all have our preferences.
