Rockets and spaceflight are dangerous by definition. Learn how Chris Hadfield and fellow astronauts manage their fears and turn it into motivation.
Enroll in Chris's MasterClass: mstr.cl/2PtQZPg
In his first-ever online class, retired astronaut Chris Hadfield teaches everything he knows about exploring space. Through personal stories, chalkboard sessions, and deconstruction of model spaceships, Chris shares the science of space travel and what the future holds for it.
Chris Hadfield spent a total of six months in orbit as the commander of the International Space Station (ISS). He has flown three space missions, conducted two spacewalks, and has logged nearly 4,000 hours in space. He is the first Canadian to live aboard the ISS and perform a spacewalk. Hadfield later became NASA’s chief of ISS operations in Houston and chief CAPCOM commander. He was recently featured among an elite group of eight astronauts in the acclaimed National Geographic documentary series One Strange Rock.
For space enthusiasts and anyone with a curiosity about our universe, Chris Hadfield’s MasterClass teaches students about life as an astronaut and how flying in space will forever change your perspective on Earth. Students will learn about the human implications of space travel and its effects on an astronaut’s body and mind, plus the technical and societal challenges we face in getting to Mars - from ideal flight path and the physics of landing safely, to the risk of human life, and what it will take to survive life on another planet.
Hadfield teaches his greatest lessons from his most indelible moments in space, changing how we think about our future there, and inspiring the next generation of astronauts in the process.
In this online science class, you’ll learn about:
• Orbital mechanics
• Human survival in space
• Spaceship design
• Future of space travel
• Commanding the ISS
• Problem-solving
• The mind and body in space
• Applying space to earth

"things aren't scary, people are scared. the thing isn't scary, fear is just your reaction to a thing that exists." mind. blown. I suffer with anxiety, and that honestly blew my mind, I needed to hear that so badly. my anxiety is my response to a thing, and I can change it, then the thing won't make me panic anymore. I'm so glad I clicked on this video ❤️

Well having an anxiety disorder is a bit more complicated than just telling yourself not to panic. Sure, danger isn't synonymous with fear, it's a fight or flight response that has been encoded in your brain through multiple reasons. I don't think that fear is always connected to competence. Sometimes I get scared of things that I know that I have experienced before and can handle, but I get extremely anxious just out of habit.

As a coach and therapist, fear is one of those core areas I decided I'll major in. Because I've seen it stop thinking humans from doing what matters to them. Now with my channel, I do that, and I'm grateful. Imagine when I was starting my podcast I was afraid and scared myself. I followed a process to break through it. Awemazing video. I enjoyed his story.

WOW!!! To say that this has made me think is an understatement! The task isn't scary ... it's how I have perceived that task that makes it scary to me. It's how I react to the situation. The best antidote to fear is competence. No truer words have every been spoken. Thank you Col Hadfield!

As a retired military NCO with combat I agree with you when you say confidence and competence removes all fear. When getting on a plane late at night going to another country to stand up for the rights of others takes more then courage, it takes training, and a belief that God with us.
