Thanks for supporting Mend it Mark, an excellent KZbin channel. Tom Evans Audio is selling ridiculously overpriced audiophile snake oil, and all this is a badly handled PR disaster from them because of their ass hurt over having that snake oil (gently) shown my Mark.
@robertw1871Ай бұрын
It’s not just snake oil that product is built to such a low standard that it’s borderline fraud… That’s what he’s trying to hide. It’s not even decent hobby level build quality it’s very deceptive considering its price. Most audiophile level equipment has a bit of snake oil, but the build quality is usually exceptional so there’s still value in it.
@1061shrink1061Ай бұрын
@@robertw1871 I wouldn't go as far as fraud... There is no evidence whatsoever that the product doesn't work (when not broken). It clearly has a large number of hand selected components, all of which seem to be hand assembled and soldered to a huge number of boards. It has lots of redundant circuitry and loads of power supply filtering, which could in theory, all be a good thing. In fact, given this unit is UK built, by someone probably paid a decent living wage, the actual assembly cost of this unit, would be quite high. that doesn't mean its worth that money, and they could have chose to do it any other number of ways. None of that is in dispute. But theres no fraud here, when not broken, the unit does exactly what it is supposed to do.
@reggiedixon2Ай бұрын
@@1061shrink1061 What would you estimate the total value of the components? I know that there is more to value than this and some newspaper doing a breakdown of an iPhone and reckoning there was £85 of components but even so Apple don't charge £25K
@renerebe29 күн бұрын
not only snake oil, but rather questionable shady build quality ;-)
@J.C...28 күн бұрын
It's not exactly snake oil. Mark made it a point to point out that it does take a lot of time to go through and test every component for exact specs he's looking for. IMO, that's likely where all the labor cost comes from and where all the cost in general comes from. That and he thinks his time is EXTREMELY valuable. This in no way means I support Tom Evans. I was just giving an explanation. It still isn't worth $25k

Tom has sold 80 of these, IIRC, at a huge markup, all he had to do was to fix it with goodwill. All it needed was a new cap, easily found by IR, and a top cover. Then he doubled down, blaming the customer, then blaming Mark. Anyone but himself. Even sanding off the part numbers, was nevcessary due to 'other people' copying his rather ordinary, datasheet designs.

You know there is nothing new because Mark reversed it and showed it to the public. Ethics ,IP, trade secrets are involved here. The copyright is a minor factor. Just my 2 C.
@dizwellАй бұрын
@@twocentmanHe claimed Mark's documentation violated UK "registered designs", though he didn't think fit to cite the specific registered design number. That will be because Tom Evans doesn't _have_ any UK registered designs (you can search online: no matching g results). Meaning he fibbed. In any case, registered designs protect the look and feel of a product from being commercially exploited by rivals (think: the unique shape of the Coke bottle or the iPhone's rounded corners). They cannot be used to protect _functional_ aspects of a product (such as circuit layouts). And even if they could, Mark's not exploiting his reverse engineering as a commercial rival, so he'd have no case to answer. Whichever way you look at it, TomEvans has no claim in patent, copyright or design protection law. His claim to KZbin was fraudulent.
