I really enjoyed this video, I’ve known about trail braking and always thought it was best to be on throttle as early as possible, now I see I may be getting on throttle to early and I really think my trail braking needs smoothing out. And I think I’m still to hard on the brakes initially and braking too late. Pretty much everything you can do wrong I think I do 😅Thanks for the video, a lot of good info here. Going to be saving this one for sure.👍

2x! Congrats my guy. As for the vid, I always thought you were supposed to hit the brake fast and hard right away and ease off...I'm learning that, that coupled with early throttle application I'm actually over driving the car, instead of focussing on being smooth and listening to what the car wants, and not what the book says. Thanks alot Daniel, and congratulations again from a fellow Canadian!

Such a good video for explaining how to balance the car. I was always taught to imagine a piece of string connecting the steering wheel and the accelerator, too much throttle/steering angle and the piece of string snaps and then you’re going to lose grip/traction.

Great video and great explanation. When I started my sim racing journey 15 years ago it was fundamental to brake 100%, coast into the corner and apply throttle as soon as possible to have a nice exit. All through those years my driving style was very aggressive and many times I was losing grip without properly knowing why. In the past years I saw this tradition to trail-braking technique, even though was popular among racing drivers but without understanding the meaning of it; it was like a secret special ingredient. In past years (youtubers, guides etc.) no one was talking about steering with your feet.

Thanks a lot. Based on my experience with coaching motorcycle riders that have converted to driving cars or driving cars on the Sim, they always do well because the technique and inputs are not very far away. At the end of the day, it’s all about weight balance. It’s just a different way to achieve the correct weight balance as you are using your pedals a lot more than your body.

Nice video two-timer. 😉With some cars I tend to use a fair bit of "maintenance throttle" (10-15% maybe) mid corner to help the balance. Unloads the braking demand on the front tire, transferring available grip in the friction circle to the turning component and also reduces likelihood of the rear end coming around as it shifts a little load to the rear tires. If done right it feels as if the car magically turns a tighter radius for the same speed.

Driver61 had a sim person out that he was training in a video and the thing that helped me there, and kind of a simplified version of this, is smooth on the brakes, smooth off the brakes, smooth on the throttle, smooth off the throttle. Thats what youre doing here too is just keeping everything smooth and controlled. Its actually kind of weird at first if youre not used to it because it feels more like youre lazily driving the car compared to slam the brakes, turn the car in, throw the wheel back and forth, slam the throttle and control the power drift, etc. One thing in the sim that helps is having head motion setup so you can see what the car is doing. So for instance you should be able to see the front end of the car lift up as you get off the brakes and enter the corner. It's a good visual way to know if the car is balanced or leaning too far forward on the front wheels coming into the corner.

The explanation on brake release leading to steering oversteer under late initial hard braking was what I needed! I couldn't figure it out before, where I thought the weight should've shifted back preventing that but it was the front losing grip to gripping up leading to a pointy front. 🤯 I just held the brakes harder & longer to compensate, not knowing the front tires were overwhelmed.

Thank you for explaining your technique. I really have to practice more on this because I'm the one who is always too late on the breaks to be faster, but in the end, I'm slower. Have to reset my mind 😅 Greetings from Cologne, Germany ❤

I've always relied on my instincts and feeling of the car to tell me where the weight is in the car and how much is going where. Going in to sim racing it's been a tough learning curve to get fast without that physical data coming in. I'm excited to get home and practice. I think you helped explain a few things I've been really struggling with!

I track my 911 quite a bit and have learned to love trail braking. Thank you for your videos it’s great to hear a humble winning pro driver talk technique both on the track and in the SIM.congratulations on Daytona I watched most of the race and was pulling for you!

its late by the video standards but I've noticed i like a lot of oversteer, it almost feels like my rotation almost exclusively coming from the rear with a lack of grip from the fronts to control it. this video has definitely shown me a lot i need to practice to improve!

i REALLY struggled with hurrendous oversteer on entry and understeer on exit when swapping to acc from ac and this has just made me understand why - always thought it was just the game.

This is a great explanation of brake and throttle control, which also applies to triggers for us mere mortals with no budget for sim-rigs, or for those just getting in to sim-racing at a console level. Really looking forward to transferring these skills to a rig later in the year.

Thank you for this explanation! It helped me visualize what I should be doing versus what I am doing now. Can't wait to put it in practice.

Been sim racing for many years now but I'm still mid pack speed wise, this video was very useful as I realize my trailbraking game really needs a step up! Was doing the 'brake late hard let the car roll neutral into the corner' approach for the most part. Also congrats on your 2nd Rolex!

Congrats on the double win! Great video on explaining everything on weight transfer while using the brake and getting on the throttle. I'm at the point of testing and trying to understand the Low speed shock compression and rebound and after that the high speed shock compression and rebound.

Thank you so much, that was simple and clear 👍 i am type of driver "late&hard=understeer" Now i have to master the transformation to "not that late & not that hard" in mutliple corners on multiple tracks. Thx Daniel 😉

Congrats Daniel I am so excited to see the success you are having, and giving back to us with your tips we’re so grateful. I’m trying to reduce my braking to increase my rolling speed through the apex and off, but I frequently feel like I’m getting run over from behind. It’s a difficult balance to master, especially in traffic.
