Haha I remember that too! It’s always felt pretty nebulous but I have used it to defend before and it often feels useful to have a piece that can jump over cramped positions near the king to fend off unsound sacs. And though passive it isn’t attachable by a pawn.

My advice to king's Indian players as a grünfeld player, go with the e5 against the normal variations most of the time and c5 against slow and weird systems like e3 b3 The d5 break is a bit different

D5 is more like a sicilian dragon, it's very good in many positions, that's why I like so much the combo pirc, kid, dragon, grunfeld and benko, they share soooooo maby ideas, it's good to have this much flexibility

I really loved this episode. My mate I play against a lot is a complete Philodor one trick pony. I never was quite sure what the refutation is. With this early d6, locking in the Bishop (which intuitively just seemed wrong), the game always seems like to evolve into these positional games with very little tactical opportunities.

I'm actually on the search for a weapon against 1. d4 for black. I'm unsure if the KID is to my taste since on one side I really like attacking tactical chess but on the other side I can't handle closed positions well. Would you recommend me to try it? Also today is the first time I heard about you wanting to release a chessable course on the KID and since I'm having fun learning hundreds of lines of theory I'll surely consider buying it. Keep up your great content, you're one of the reasons I got a rating of 1790 DWZ (similar to FIDE) after playing my first OTB tournament!

A large part of chess is pattern recognition / recall. As an experienced player (& as someone passionate about trying to help serious chess students), there are all sorts of themes that Danya repeats. In many speedrun videos, he says stuff like "I've shown this before...". For quickly finding examples of some particular position, it's my understanding that the chessbase program has a search feature.

I say this with utmost respect for Danya. These videos are helpful, but the very nature of watching something like this online means often you are not pausing to think for yourself. Without doing that your brain is not working, and the learning is not sinking into your subconscious. What would be much better, is take a good book like Chess Fundamentals (Capablanca), go to a place without the Internet, and work it page by page with a pocket chess set. Force yourself to stop and think, then compare what you think of the position versus what the author tells you. In today's world we tend to use shortcuts to replace real work. They tend to impede your progress in the long run.
