In this Mastering Diagnostics video, the sixth in this series, Brandon strategizes how to use the Bosch ADS 525x scan tool platform for data PIDs and Bi-directional control to split the system. The tool eliminates unnecessary testing and allows the technician to focus on the hands-on testing only, where it is needed. Check out the video to learn about this “divide and conquer” diagnostic strategy.

Good one Brandon. Much of what you brought out here is what Bernie Thompson has said. He called it Data Driven, which is how you presented the diagnostic path. Yours was a little more detailed, but definitely gets the point across. Thanks for this video.

🤔 the sad part is they declined the repair it goes to Joe hack who tares it all apart (because he has no diagnostic skills and is willing to charge less than you were going to charge) then tells the customer it needs a motor because that's what caused the real problem to take place 🤔 I see this ALL THE TIME AGAIN UNFORTUNATELY THAT'S THE REAL WORLD

My take away from all of this is if you want to make a happy customer, and potentially a repeat customer, state that proper repairs were made within the one hour diagnostic fee, let the customer shake your hand and tell him to have a great day. That’s called integrity.
@MotorAgeMagazine
@MotorAgeMagazine Жыл бұрын
Although I agree with that, I will say not all complete diagnoses can be drawn within the first hour. However, as long as you communicate with the customer, each step of the way, you can easily sell the required time to complete the diagnosis accurately.

Unfortunately , many shops will go for the $ and put in a motor , even if only the connector was loose . On the customer side , if you keep coming back and some repairs are a simple fix , I think you will be loyal . Again , too many shops try to squeeze the maximum juice on each repair . Even worse are the shops with limited training and equipment . Great lesson .

Interesting enough video. I didn't know about PID manipulation from scan tool. The method of troubleshooting was correct. However, I'll suggest to change your terminology a bit. Use control or signal side for relay input and instead of electrons, because that's just a bit too dramatic use voltage or grounding as applicable. All in all, great video. Thanks.

I only have one small issue I understand how this all works how come there was no explanation reversing the voltage in the motor?
@pedrorojascervantes3928
@pedrorojascervantes3928 Жыл бұрын
The switch controls the ground side which reverses the polarity in the motor so that it can spin in one direction & then the other for up or down, respectively, therefore continuous 12 volts to the switch. The direction of the spin of the motor can thusly be controlled by one motor, not two.
@MotorAgeMagazine
@MotorAgeMagazine Жыл бұрын
I apologize if I wasn't clear. According to the displayed wiring diagram and the correlating explanation I gave, both the switch contacts rest at ground reference. Only when the switch is depressed does one of the motor circuit feeds reference voltage supply (the other remains on ground reference). This allows the motor to rotate in one direction. Reversing the switch allows the terminals of the switch to change reference points (what was referencing voltage now references ground...what was referencing ground now references voltage) and the motor reverses direction.

@@MotorAgeMagazine hopefully everyone reads this because this now completes the explanation of the complete operation of the circuit (thank you so much sitting in front of a camera and doing this I'm sure it's quite challenging I know for a fact that goes through your head like lightning and you understand it completely I wish to thank you one more time for keeping this clarified in the afterwards of the great job thank you!

Education is key. Everyone on the team needs to understand how problems are solved, how they take time, how we need to get paid for our craft and we need to educate the customer. When that gets accomplished, it becomes a smooth-running operation.

I remember when I changed the points on my 66 mustang I couldn't find any of the old school guys that find their timing and dwell meters. They all had one but just didn't know where it was. I ended up getting a points replacement hall effect sensor. It was one of those upgrades that I never looked back on.
