I totally spaced and forgot to mention foliar sprays! Foliar sprays are a great option for truly epiphytic plants such as Tillandsia and Bromeliads.

I use foliar spray on my orchids, but I have two Tillandsia and I never thought to use the spray on them. I guess I am going try the spray on them too.

Love how thorough you are, Drea. Again, this will be such a good reference tool for newbies. As an oldie moldie, I use this mantra for life "When in doubt, don't!" For plants, "When in doubt, if all else fails, read the instructions."

I have recently been working with Orchids and finding I have to relearn everything I thought I knew about Orchids. The true measure of success will be come bloom season this winter. That being said, I will move away from the bloom boosters once they start blooming and do a balanced fertilizer until the blooms are done then start all over again. I have also been working with Espicia and I have always loved African violets so more experiments ongoing with different fertilizers.

I had a large collection when I lived in Miami. They love fish emulsion & super thrive! Bloom boost when they start pushing out bloom spikes.

i think organic means micro organisms need to break things down before plants can use . id rather give them 85% phosphoric acid . lol i like sulfur mag more for some plants. calmag raises my ppm a lot . i use epsom and wollastonite if you can get nutrients to attach to humik you can feed a lot less,

Can we talk about how much more water plants require during active growing season vs. non-growing seasons? Example, I was keeping my orchids in a traditional orchid mix. Wrong…In our hot Dallas environment I had constantly dehydrated orchids UNTIL I started potting in just Sphagnum moss. Also, self watering planters on orchids? Yes. Here we need them. It is so interesting how all the things you are told are gospel really aren’t and how you have to adjust by your local climate in order to be successful.

This vid is really timely for me. I recently started using Superthrive Foliage-Pro because I moved some Alocasia over to semi-hydro. Its a Dyna-Gro product. I was looking for a feed that I could keep in the reservoir and the Superthrive was recommended. Its 9-3-6 with all the extras, although no sulfur. I have been using it for about a month, not just for semi-hydro, but all of my plants, and while it is a little too early to draw conclusions, many of my Alocasia, even the ones still in soil, are putting out new, HUGE leaves. The directions call for 1-2 tsp per gallon, 1 to 4 weeks, depending on your strength. I have a few one gallon milk jugs full of it, waiting for the next watering. I will keep an eye on the efficacy, to see if the pre-mixing loses its potency. That's something that I never thought of, although I have pre-mixed several different brands and never noticed a difference. Thanks for the tip.

Liqui-dirt is suspicious. A private lab analysis of their sister product "Noot" shows an alarmingly low percentage of macronutrients (or none at all) and demonstrates a complete lack of certain micronutrients it claims to have on the packaging. Liquidirt could be doing the same thing. Idk. Considering how much they sell, idk why they wouldn't get an analysis. Great video!
@GreenWitch13 ай бұрын
I decided to switch to liqui dirt recently just to mix it up. I usually use GT Foliage Focus “weakly weekly”. No problem at all! Two waterings with a diluted amount of liquid dirt started burning my leaf tips. I sent it back! Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Thanks for the informative video. I have only about 65 and find plants to water 3 or 4 days a week. I can't depend on memory to know which plants I fertilized during the previous watering. With all of your plants, do you have a system for keeping track? A computer program ?

It has all the micro nutrients in it except it doesn’t have calcium, so I add calcium-magnesium supplement too. I’d like your opinion on the Great White Mychroizom. So many plant creators use it, so I started adding it.

I have found that natural fertilizers also attract animals. When I used fish emulsion or blood meal in my garden, the raccoons tore up my garden. The fish emulsion would attract my dogs' attention in the house. So I quit using natural fertzs at all. Plus the fish stuff smelled too! But what is the difference between a 10-10-10 and a 20-20-20? Does that mean it has more of those things? Is the 20-20-20 better because the numbers are higher? Thank you so much for explaining all this. You make it understandable.

Do you need fertilizer if you water with aquarium water?
@AlohaPlantLife2 ай бұрын
That is a hard question to answer unless you have an analysis done of your aquarium water to know exactly what’s in it.
