Air is your biggest enemy in any refrigeration system. If you have high purge minutes on your chiller it is very possible that you have substantial leaks on the machine that need to be located and repaired.
You can pull the entire charge, and pressurize the system with nitrogen, or you can use a pressurizer. in this video we walk you through the process of how to use a hyperwatt pressurizer to find leaks in a low pressure centrifugal chiller.
This video runs through how to use a HyperWatt chiller pressurizer to pressurize and leak check a low pressure Trane centrifugal chiller.
This is the process used to find vacuum leaks on the machine that bring air into the system during operation.
Trane CVHE and CVHF chillers were depicted in the video, but this process will work on York chillers, carrier chillers, and all other low pressure centrifugal chillers that operate in a vacuum
Wether your a project manager, mechanical engineer, or beginning your career as a chiller technician, this video walks you through the basics of how to pressurize a machine so you can grow in your career.

A HyperWatt Pressurizer was used in this video. Good Luck!

Would be great if you could do a service call story series and incorporate how you did the repair or rules of thumb or just notes in bullet points to keep in mind for us that will be taking chiller service calls. Thanks for your videos they’re helpful as always 🙏🏽

That’s a great idea, something like flow loss on an evaporator, then walk through how I found the problem, and the process I used? Like a step by step guide almost? Let me know if this is what your thinking, and I’ll start putting some stuff together

@@TheChillerGuys yeah something like that maybe a few pics for visuals and you can make it as a personal stories series making it more relatable to the audience building that rapport factor is always good but these are just my thoughts.

That’s awesome feedback, I appreciate it man! I will get on some of those types of things here shortly. If you have any other things that you think the guys would find helpful, let me know. It’s hard sometimes to know what’s helpful and what’s not, I don’t want to be putting out things that waste all of our time, so thanks man. Have a great rest of you week brother

Why didn't the pressurizer shut off on flow if it was hydraulically locked?
@TheChillerGuys

If your valves are closed and you hydraulically lock a vessel, the Hyper watt will still pump if it’s on the vessel side. All you’re doing is creating a pressure differential with the pump. Similar to a pump in the chiller system, just with no expansion tank. Hopefully this answers your question

I’ve always used 515 to reseal gaskets or in low pressure chillers I’d use vacuseal it’s like a clear liquid and when the chiller is in a vacuum it will pull in and seal all the leaks then harden. After keep track of the pump outs on the purge that’s how you can see if there’s still leaks or not.

A vacuum sealant I have used for 30 years until the chiller can be shutdown for leak repairs , keeps the moisture and non condensables out and prevents the purge from working overtime until you can replace o-rings or gaskets
