Excelent video and very good explanation about how to climb with a velomobile. Too bad I can’t go out and test these tips, because we don’t have such a long climbs around here where I live 😅

Doubt I will get a velo as heavier than my trike, an ICE SPrint X 26 Tour which I got last year. The gearing is low enough to climb a 15% hill at my preferred cadence of 85rpm without strain whilst spinning out at 30mph.. Got fed up with it being slower up hills than my bicycles though (sitting) and being 25% slower on average per journey. So put a 250W electric motor on it making it alot more enjoyable. The only downside is that am limited by the battery which has a range of about 80 miles.

Have you ever experienced one for yourself ? I have and it is not pleasant. I was totaly exhausted and couldn't drive or push my bike any more. My wife had to come and fetch me with the car.

Yeah I did. Very memorable lol! I needed to take a break every 1 km like an old man for the last 5 km of my last tour.

I totally understand where you're coming from about everything that was explained in the video. But, it in no way explained what's the best technique for switching between the standard gears to the mountain/speed setting for a shlumph gear system.

Sorry, but I've no experience with Schlumpf Mountain Drive gearing, therefore I cannot give any advice for that. My Quest has three sprockets in the front and 11 in the rear. Changing gears is similar to an upright race bike and needs not to be explained especially if the system is carefully adjusted as it should be.

Don't have a velo, but on the recumbent trike have a rohloff on the back giving 526% range. WHich when combined with my tripple chainring on the front (200%) gives 1052% range. A schlump gives 250% rather than 200% for a tripple chainring , but what I dont like about it is the huge jump between chainrings meaning you have to change up or down tons of gears (about 6) when swapping rings. The shlump also gives drag. To change between rings on a shclumpf, you press a button on the crank with your heel.
