In this video we dive deep into evaporator approach on chillers.
we go thought design approach values on brazed plate heat exchangers, dx style tube and shell evaporators, as well as flooded evaporators.
taking this reading will help you diagnose problems correctly on centrifugal chillers, scroll chillers, and screw chillers.
The most common issues associated with high evaporator approach are low pressure hold/ low pressure unload warnings, Chiller Surge, as well as low pressure trips
This reading will help you in diagnosing the following:
Dirty tubes on the chillers evaporator
Dirty tubes on the chillers condenser
A chiller that is low on charge.
a chiller that has too much oil in it.
a chiller with poor evaporator water flow
a water cooled chiller with poor condenser water flow
low suction pressure faults.
low suction pressure trips
heat transfer issues on the evaporator side.
Chiller is surging
Chiller is running very loud
This fundamental applies to Trane chillers, Daikin chillers, York chillers, And Every other chiller in the industry.
This video is for:
Building engineers
HVAC technicians
Mechanical engineers
Aspiring chiller technicians
HVAC contractors looking to get into chillers
Someone who wants to learn more about how chillers work.

Falling Film. Feeds liquid onto the top of the evaporator instead of the bottom, sort of acts as a sprayer downwards onto the tubes. Suction elbow is baffled to prevent liquid from being sucked into the impeller. Newer York chillers use this to reduce system charge and improve efficiency.

@@FrenchBeefCDN thanks man! I’ll have to get it added. I had another guy mention that. And he sent me a video, kind of a neat concept. He said it was supposed to be 0-1 degree approach at full load, Does that seem right? Just want to make sure I’m giving everyone real data.

Wow man I go to school for large commercial and industrial hvac and what took me almost a year to understand and learn you put in a 6 minute video absolutely great quality that was easy to understand you are really appreciated I’m definitely sharing your videos with my school thank you so much most of us apprentices struggle with the basics and just understanding order of operation you definitely put this together in the best possible way to learn

@@jacobjanineofficial8442 keep working your way up man, it takes time, learn what you can, network, and maybe you can get into working with a company that does service. Service guys will typically earn a little higher salary than an operator. Keep at it brother! No reason why you can’t practice taking readings and checking charge on your machines. You can run through, check your sensors, transducers, and practice the fundamentals.

@@TheChillerGuys I’m mainly doing commercial/light commercial residential hvacr up to 50 tons and commercial refrigeration. Haven’t worked on a chiller in my 4 years. Most I’ve done associating with them is PM the cooling towers and AHU checking parameters etc. just wanna be ready for the day I have to work on one as I have a feeling it will be soon.

that makes sense to an extent, hopefully the guys you work with share information and want to help you learn. just keep studying and learning as much as you can, and it will come. i will be putting up some more fundamental stuff, and diagnosing stuff in the future, just trying to find the time! @theengineeringmindset has a lot of good info out there, check out his stuff, and subcool hvac has good stuff too. then just keep plugging away! you never stop learning as a chiller tech@@boywhohadatiger
