Also with my natural piano I tend to press more on the pedal. With my electric piano I noticed I like to do the half pedaling technique more. In fact sometimes I don't pedal until the very last minute when I'm transitioning to the next note to avoid the sound being abrupt.

I know. I mean I accept that they are comfortable and real. There is a reason that we wear comfortable shoes on TV sets, since we are on our feet and we rarely show feet. However, if your planning on shooting your feet.,you know like in a Piano pedal video a nice pair of polished dress casual shoes would have been nice. Lol. U ROCK as always.

it's a good thing then for people with digital pianos, that they're not simply an on/off switch, they do register levels of pressure.

I always practice a new piece without a pedal WHATSOEVER. I can't even do it unless I master that part first. The echo gets in the way of my hearing somehow.

Winner of a video, been searching for "what does this symbol mean in music?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Danilliam Illustrious Dominance - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a great exclusive product for discovering how to learning piano fast minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my co-worker got cool results with it.

Often pedalling is just trial and error and a matter of personal preference. And Robert is quite right pedalling varies between pianos. I do like half pedalling though. Just fluttering on the sustaining pedal.
@jsprite1237 жыл бұрын
Hi, is there a detente on the pedal to tell you that you are half-way, or do you know mostly by the sound the notes themselves make when you are at "half-way"? Is it really then a 3-position (off, half-way, fully on) pedal? I thought the pedaling provided basically an infinite pressure between off and fully on. Sorry, I just want to understand. Thank you.

On digital piano, like yamaha, the FC3A pedal has a half pedaling function and it has 127 positions between 0 sustain and full sustain. But it just works on compatible pianos.
@saxonliw95025 жыл бұрын
The detent tells you when the dampers starts to lift from the strings. From that point on, the dampers starts to lift and the strings are no longer damped that much until the dampers fully lift and the strings are fully free to vibrate.
@xiongchiamiov3 жыл бұрын
You can pop the lid to see what's happening as you press the pedal: dampers slowly start to rise off the strings. Since these are felt, there's a bit of a grey area rather than fully being on and off like something like a hard plastic would give. I find that I learn over time how a particular piano feels as it transitions, so that I don't need to rely on ear as much. Then I go to someone else's house and have to figure out that one!

What about us electronic keyboardists? The sustain pedal comes with only on off feature as far as i have learned, for the Midi keyboard or elec pianos. Some video showed in the search result about half damper sustain pedal- he showed that Expression pedal can produce that half damping effect coz its not on off in its configuration. I am wondering which one, the sustain or expression pedal should be preferred for the sustain effect for electronic keyboards for pianos? which ones should we buy? thanks
@Persun_McPersonson8 ай бұрын
No, you can get pedals with half-pedaling capability. Instead of using a simple on-off switch, they continuously sense the pedal's position using a potentiometer.
@creepykong42225 жыл бұрын
Still don't know what half pedal is. Kind of missed explanation if there was any.
@cosmonautduckling64025 жыл бұрын
With an acoustic piano the pedal is a mechanical action, best way I can think of off the top of my head is doing a scale with a cresendo. Or a car/motorcycle speed and acceleration varying on how much you push/twist the accelerator. The volume or sustain will vary depending on how fast your/hard you press a key down or how far you push the pedal down. While some digital pianos the pedal will not activate unless it is all the way down. If you get the chance one way you can experiment with pedalling is doing a scale with pedal all the way down, then half, and lastly without it.

can you do a quarter or 3/4 of a sustain too? Or is it only program for half only and on and off.

The sustain pedal on pianos is infinitely variable. Pedals on pianos all have unique responses as well.
