@ArghanionsPuzzlebox Just so you know you can set OBS to force SDR to fix the washed out colors because your recording in HDR but uploading in SDR so it just has high and low cut offs

Another awesome video! Best one on VDB clouds I've seen. A little tip for you in case you don't already know, but I noticed when you were creating scaler parameters you created them and named them, if you right click on the input of the node there's often an option to 'promote to parameter', this will create a named scaler for you.

@@ArghanionsPuzzlebox no worries. I've tried using volumetric clouds with VDB clouds but found that the VDBs always render in front of the volumetric clouds even if they're behind them, have you encountered this? I've tried searching for a solution but so far no luck.

@@snookofficial7211 Hey man. No solution for this issue as of yet. You could experiment with disabling "Depth Sorting" using a console command. have a look for it, easy to find on google, but that will still not remove the issue entirely, generally it helps with VDBs overlayed between each other.

fyi all the clouds settings in the sky atmosphere won’t affect vdbs at all. those settings are only for the built in volumetric clouds object.

There will deffinitely be some light bleeds that will overall cause some changes but I understand what you mean. The important thing is that with the Sky atmosphere, we do get a cohesive environment look.

hey it looks so great and also thanks for your tutorial. I have just one question about this animation. It seems like a repetation, so there is always a break. How it can be a no intermittent animation?

You would need to create a cloud in an app like Embergen where the effect loops on itself

Any tips for creating vdb clouds in games? finding cloud forge makes fps grind to a halt.

Unfortunately, at the moment the only way to get more FPS out of VDBs is to use very low ress types of VDBs (which the Cloudforge doesn't have any) and/or use a low sample of lights and shadows for them, but this makes them look far more ugly. I believe we need further improvements to the way Unreal Engine handles them, it's already quite efficient as opposed to other apps but still needs loads of work.

Not sure as of yet since the preview version introduced shadows and not much else. I'll have to see when the full release is out.

whats the difference between the setup you created for the VDB material and the pre-existing SparseVolumeMaterial in Unreal?

My paticular material contains the Beerslaw solution for Cloud Self Shdowing and it does not have any of the Nodes needed for the Blackbody Temperature settings. In most ways they are similar, but there are changes and this material setup showcases how to use it and why. I'm also using a Remap Node which allows for more control as opposed to the default material.

why does the VDB cloud look so dark gray? its a pretty bad mismatch from the UDS clouds

Hi Jason. It's all about art direction. All the options I showed here will empower you to get the same result as UDS. I didn't spend much time to get a different look to them as I just quickly did it on the fly.

Also, one thing to consider on the VDB cloud is how close it was to the ground. UDS was far higher in the sky thus the Atmosphere affects the shader differently.

Did you get 5.4 via the Epic Games Launcher? It's not showing up for me, maybe they're rolling it out gradually.

Hi. Initially it wasn't showing up for me either. After about a day since the preview launched, I could add it with the + sign in the UE launcher.

When i do the command for the indirecr lighting nothing changes,and also my cloud have a lot of shadows on the top with a cut

You need to ensure you are using Lumen, also that there is a skylight and directional light in the scene for it to work. Not sure about the harsh shadow line. Could you join Discord so I can have a look?
