I like the acceptance that we all have a little child inside us and that now and then they throw a bit of a tantrum. Of course we have to take responsibility for what we say and do in that state, but I think we’d all get on better if we just acknowledged that we all react poorly sometimes. And though it’s not an excuse, it doesn’t make us uniquely bad or immature.

Doctor, I am an anxiously attached 39 years old woman. I am recently learning that I am that way and it makes sense. I am putting a lot of work into self-regulation and knowing my triggers. Right now, I am dealing with guilt and shame. It's overwhelming because I lost this person because of the way I behaved. He is avoidant type and I know he made mistakes too, but I am carrying with the guilty load that it was all my fault and although I have controlled myself from not contacting him to apologize to avoid frustrating him and respect his space, I just want to be heard.
