Great stuff, nothing like polishing up on the old mastering skills.

You squashed all the life out of it - preferred the pre-mastered version.

Thanx Cameron... that must be the best and clearest explanation I have watched on YT.... any chance of doing a video on multiband compression? It’s a dark art for me... lol

Thanks for keeping this relatively simple. Newbie here finishing my first track using iPad and Fab filters. I had no clue as to mastering. The track sounds so much more professional now!

it would be helpful to know the order of each mastering vst in the chain on the master.

Man, you rock. I feel that I understand many of the mumbo jumbo in the cubase, at least at what are they good at. I'm in the heavy metal genre, but still, I think I can (finally) use some of the tips.

I have Cubase Elements and I can only find a few of these plug-ins. Presumably the rest are only available in Pro / Artist version?

I want to know how comparable these plugins are to the fab filter plugins. I use those on a daily basis and haven't had the time to learn all the stock stuff.

Thank you, I have just started to master the songs I have created so perfect timing. I currently master with a single wave file in a separate project. Does it make any difference? I do this as my cpu struggles sometimes
@DrBuffaloBalls3 жыл бұрын
That is a smart method, because that way you have to consider if your mix is done before moving to mastering.
@VenusTheory3 жыл бұрын
Doesn't really make a difference. Some people prefer to do it as a separate session, some do it in the same session. Suppose it just comes down to your computer processing power and whatnot. For some tracks, I've definitely had to bounce the mix and do the master in a separate session or else my computer will cry haha.

Look into the Steinberg Download Assistant. There you find the Demo Track for Cubase 11.

What do you do if you don't have a reference track that sounds anything like what you're working on?
@VenusTheory3 жыл бұрын
In that case, I'd just get something as close as possible or use another one of your own songs that sounds roughly similar that you liked the mix of.

Wow I always thought Venus used Bitwig! Didn't know he used Cubase too!

I bounce between the two! Just depends on what I'm doing really.

I love your alter ego BTW - but today, I am stoked to hear the other side of your brain talking. I REALLY want to stop using Logic and switch to Cubase or any other software that understands Multitrack Editing and the need for a Robust way to deal with editing Several tracks at the same time. The Apple iPhone company and their consumer product (laughably named "Logic PRO") is a joke when it comes to Multitrack editing. so for 20 years I worked with ProTools whenever I recorded an orchestra, but Logic for everything else. Wouldn't it be neat if one company's of software would work for both scenarios. Although - I doubt Abbey Road, Skysound, or Capital will move away from ProTools any time soon...
