Wooow... These are exactly the same basics I learnt almost 20 years ago, when I took my first Wing Chun classes. Another country, another teacher, of course. Some extra tips: 1 - The basic Wing Chun standing stance keeps your balance so well it will also help you in some everyday situations, like remaining on your feet when a bus or train you may be riding suddendly stops. Or in a concert full of people rocking back and forth. Etc. 2 - Then you learn to move forward and back using this stance. Which is also great for those who may find themselves every now and then with narrow walking paths, not necessarily tightrope walking haha, but those who hike, those who're in the construction business and sometimes gotta walk over some boards that lay above fresh concrete and you don't want to mess everything up, or when it's raining heavily and the sidewalk isn't level and you only got a pathway half a tile wide... you know... everyday stuff that's way more common to come across than getting into a fight. 3 - And when punching, then you learn to actually plan your fist to land a little bit behind the point you know it's really going to impact. Well this one is 100% Bruce Lee, and hard to explain without a video, but still, trying to sum it up, the result is a short punch that carries the strenght of a fully outstretched arm. The results are devastating for the opponent. Hopefully Mr Wong already did a video on this one, and if he didn't, it'd be great to have one. Cheers, may you all have a nice day.
@FracturedPixels8 жыл бұрын
My father trained for many years in wing chun, and he told me that you must be mindful of your punches, in centimeters. You must only ever hit one, two, three, four or five centimeters behind a target, even at 5 you should be cautious since you can quite easily kill your opponent if you struck them in the head (assuming you punch properly)
@hansvonmannschaft90628 жыл бұрын
***** Great advice Pixels. A good video on this subject would definitely be greatly appreciated :-) May you have a great day sir.

Just did! I can't believe I wasn't subbed already. Oh maybe I am, on my other account :-) Love your style Master Wong, you know how to teach, how to keep people interested in your lessons. I had many teachers when I was at the University that knew a lot - but didn't know how to transfer that knowledge, or how to keep people from falling asleep in their classes. On the other hand, each time I watch one of your videos, I watch it from beginning to end with great interest. Thanks for your great work and may you have a nice day!

From a Black Belt Kempo instructor, much love and appreciation for your lessons, sir! We instruct to turn at the waist into the strike to increase power, much like you have demonstrated here. However, I like the dual foot pivot and turn because it is elusive, in that, you can switch your position left/right from center. Again, thank you for your time and wisdom, sir. Your teaching is greatly appreciated!

I can remember Mike Tyson doing this footwork when he was in his prime in the 1980's. So he was doing his Wing Chun. He also went inside and up close, another trait of Wing Chun. Food for thought. Go check out his old fights if there are any on KZbin and you'll see what I mean.

Master Wong, my friend was skeptic about your tutorials. But I started training before I introduced him to your videos. He said it would be much better if I had an actual coach/instructor, instead of studying it alone. On my point of view, I really appreciate everything you have taught inside your clips, and it teaches me on what kind of a person I should be, in mind, and in body. I'm physically slim though, not too skinny but I just started watching. I'm just also a 16 year old, turning 17 this November. Any tips and insights about how should I start doing your tips? Should I get myself a real instructor instead of watching these tutorials? My benefits are free when watching your videos though. Thanks, from Philippines :)

your friend is absolutely correct. when it comes to martial arts, in person training is infinitely better than watching videos and try to replicate.

It the same as driving...practice and the will to learn is probably going to result in someone being better over time. The 'student' in this video already shows signs of being more 'fluid' in his moves...seems to be keen learner...and humble (and fun) in his approach. Who knows maybe one he'll be a 'Master of the Arts'?!
