I learned some self-defense/martial arts stuff while doing 18 years in the military and there are similarities between some of the things Master Wong does and what I was taught. The principles he teaches are as important as the techniques. There's more then one technique you can use to defend yourself, but the principles remain the same regardless of the actual technique. Once you understand the principles of self-defense then you can take various techniques and apply them to real life. When you watch these vids don't just fixate on the movements, but listen for the principles behind them. This will allow you to make adjustments so that the moves will better suit your physical abilities and the situation you're in.
@barryshearer29257 жыл бұрын
I I am not a wing chun exponent I trained over 45 years in Shotokan the reasons for basic movements are to give you the tools you need when you have to use them in self-defence now the basic movements are just so that you get your body condition to movement and perception of the other person's movement if that's possible as it regards the wooden dummy I feel that the wooden dummy is like for conditioning so when you're blocking that would not on your actually conditioning your arms a great to personal train with Steve Morris used to do a lot of arm conditioning so when you have to block someone's I arm he could actually break it with ease but Mr Wong master Wong I like what you're doing simple effective I I like. PS don't come to use dojo training with actual defence in the street it comes a different way you adapt your dojo training to suit the safe circumstances that you're in

Master Wong, very informative video! I have been training in Japanese Karate for many years and have more recently delved deeply into its Okinawan/Chinese roots. Many of these techniques have been lost in the transfer from China to Okinawa to Japan. I appreciate your instruction very much, thank you.

Your initial movements for each defensive sequence are so fast that the video lags and then skips right past them! I thought it was a coincidence at first, but it kept happening! Master Wong, I have learned a great deal from you and truly admire your skill, precision, techniques, and practicality. Real fighting, defending yourself or your loved ones, doesn't happen in a ring, and real rules apply. Certain circumstances and conditions must be accounted for or "You gonna have a big problem!"

Hello Master Wong, My name is Michael R. Metzler Sr. from the United States, but I now live in the Philippines with my family. I am a former U.S. Marine of seven years and after being Honorably Discharged became and officer in the U.S. Army where I became a Helicopter Test Pilot (retired/veteran Oct. 95). I have been flying for 30 years this July 1987 and have flown nine different aircraft (helicopters). I started a second career teaching "English to Speakers of Other Languages" (TESOL/TEFL) and now have the chance to go to China (dream since a child) to study the arts at 56 years young. Hehehe I have been fighting my whole life (boxing, dabbling in martial arts, wrestling. street fighting, etc.), but for the past four years I have wanted to learn Wing Chun. I was in Beijing, China in October until December 2016, but never found a good Wing Chun instructor and I think that's because it's a Southern style art. Thank God I just landed a job teaching English in Dongguan (wanted Foshan) and hopefully I will find a good master near my home/school. Are you in China now or the United States? I have subscribed to your channel and will start getting serious about my training. Hope to hear from you soon, Master Wong.
