People I think don't realise or give enough credit that you need to have special character traits as a person to be in a band at this level and stick together for so long. It's a curious thing, but they are definitely blessed (and a blessing, of course)

Brent Hinds has like… Cracked guitar with the hybrid picking + the unique Middle eastern/pentatonic thing he has going on

Yeah for real. took a lesson with him years back. He is the real deal. Changed how I play. It’s all like psycho banjo rolls and country licks now 😅

@@thenightchild42069 People sleep on country music. They shouldn't. The bluegrass, rockabilly, and surf influence on metal is underrated by the general public, but musicians know.

Incredible guitar player. Similar to Dimebag in the way that he can joke around and still deliver world class music. It's in his blood.

Mastodon's Fade to Black ! What a masterpiece !
@FreakinRican69692 ай бұрын
I love Mastodon and this song, but I always said in a parallel universe that Layne Staley would make a spectacular vocalist for Mastodon His voice would mesh well, I believe, and would sound otherworldly over the first two minutes
@methodhardie9193Ай бұрын
Honestly, I love Layne’s voice, but Mastadon is already packed with distinct and talented vocalists who can pull of a huge variety of sounds.
@FreakinRican6969Ай бұрын
@@methodhardie9193 definitely! Their vocals sound amazing as is, but I think they’d all sound great together Every time I think of Layne Staley and Mastodon, I envision his vocals over the Leviathan album and get chills
@methodhardie9193Ай бұрын
@ I have to disagree with that really, I don’t think Layne’s voice would have particularly suited Leviathan - a lot of the songs on that album almost sounding like sea shanty-esque
@FreakinRican6969Ай бұрын
@ that’s because they didn’t have a “real” lead singer, so to speak, who would do vocals only. However, the sea shanty like vocals on Leviathan are excellent and served the songs well I still feel Layne Staley would have offered something truly unique as a vocalist, even in Mastodon

I give Emperor of Sand a hell of alot more credit now compared to 2017 but i still contend that this song is miles above the rest of the album, obviously.
