Little piece of trivia for y'all: Brent originally wanted this EP to be a solo project because it deals with deep aspects of his character, life and mind, but he later decided to let the boys join in so he could share part of the burden with them. He considered that in this manner the process would have been much less painful. True friendship at its best, I love them.

is this why i legit get emotional during his vocals? :(

The making of Emperor really portrays their friendship and the way music connects them. I get really emotional when they talk about Bill`s mom passing, and how he just wanted to jam with them because they are his friends and wanted to share that moment with them. I love that idea of a band.

His twin brother, Joshua Gage Lahr died 12 years before him, and he always knew his time was limited. He hated the shell he was born into, with an auto-immune disease very rare to any medical advancements. He stood toe to toe, and face to face with the demon. he fought the fight that no one wants to see. Bitten by the fangs of circumstance, he alone walked that path. I never put this song and his fight together. Tears stream down my face as I realize this is HIS anthem. Thank you for saying it in words I could not.

Brent Hinds said that Mastadon is not a Metal band and never was, and that he hates metal. . . . . Really? Haha I think it's cool that Mastadon is doing it their own way, and I really like the positive vibe of these lyrics, but frankly in my opinion this song sounds like total shite. Blood Mountain is the last Mastadon album I am a fan of. Mastadon was a Metal band, now they are prog/pop rock with some heavy guitar tones. To each their own, but Brent alienating his earlier fans with his anti metal attitude and also speaking an out right lie about the band's past, . . . . . . He is now residing in the dick wagon category for me. Mastadon basically pulled a Metallica . . . . . .. . .
@goopah6 жыл бұрын
@Mikey H. Really? Total shite? I can understand your disappointment in their change of direction, but you honestly have no appreciation for this kind of music? Each to his own, I guess, and we all have music genres that we don't like, but it surprises me that this song rates at the bottom of the scale for you. "Total shite". Those are strong words that seem to imply that any kind of music would be better than this...? For me, it's this very change of direction that made me a Mastodon fan (but then I've always loved prog rock), and I have now bought their latest two albums, and I'm contemplating which of their earlier albums I should buy next. It would be easy for me to listen to a random song here on KZbin, but I think the best approach is to buy an entire CD and listen to the whole thing to get a more accurate feel for that particular time in their career. Maybe you can help me decide. Ignore my personal taste for a second, and just tell me straight-out which is your personal favorite Mastodon album. I love heavy music as well, so don't pull any punches. I'm looking for what Mastodon fans consider their very best album ever. Not song, but full album. I like to listen to full albums instead of singles. Which is best from beginning to end? It would also help if you told me why you love that particular album, but I understand you might not want to write that much to some random dude on KZbin, so if you'd rather just give me the title, I could probably find some good reviews by others. I'd rather have your own words however, as you have intrigued me with what you've already written so far.

I stumbled onto this song randomly, and have come back every single day since. I'm going down a rabbit hole. They're just so good, so fun, and you can tell they have such chemistry together. I've been stuck in my Tool, Zeppelin, Floyd bubble for so long. It's like falling in love with someone new.

I love how much fun they have in the studio...even to this day. It can be grueling...I know, but they're doing it, and have been for a long time, and obviously still having fun, and making kick ass tunes. True to the testament of rock .

I don’t know where the fuck I have been….. I have lived under this ROCK for too long and it was holding me back from the joys I might have known sooner by knowing of this band….. all I can say is this….. the most complex linguistic transfers of energy combined with the riffs makes this band one of the most unique bands I have heard in my life. I am 55 and have played music all my life…. This is beyond words and so special!! I love what YoU guys do! I go to Atlanta every other weekend….. just blown away

This video just confirms to me that this band has room for individuality, and they enjoy each others company and particularities. There are no constraints on the creativity, no rules that have to followed on the song writing. This is why this band continues to grow and none of the band members seems to have become bored with creating and playing music together.

These guys are incredibly good. Not knowing the story behind their decision to go less heavy and more melodic, my ignorant take is that they ran into the issue that I've always imagined any super heavy band would run into: their expression was limited to rage/aggression... the only way to open their options was to explore more melody.

Hey Brann. I know when you get the time you check this stuff. I've met you a handful of times... once in Cleveland and another in Indianapolis. I'm the dude with the Blood Mountain tattoo on his forearm. You smoked cigarettes with me in Cleveland (the day before Blood Mountain came out) and hung out at the bar after the show during your Indianapolis (Vogue) show for Crack the Skye. I just wanted you to know, this Toes To Toes song is truly amazing! And I know that in interviews you guys always say something along the lines of, ''we write songs that we like'' and the sort. But I've got to say, utilize Brent all you can... His sound may be the future of your band. You guys are getting older and are more comfortable with your stations in life. You don't want to be screaming when your 50. Embrace this Pink Floyd/ Flaming Lips vibe and transform yourselves. You guys are soooooo close! I freKin' loooved Emperor of Sand but the the vibe I got from Toes to Toes is unmatched. I just wanted you to know what I thought. Know this though, no matter what you and the crew do, I will support it.

An amazing band. And Brent Hinds is unique. The voice and the guitar. Plus I love that these guys effectively have 3 lead vocalists. And if that wasn't enough, even when these guys change time signature all over the place the songs retain their groove.
