The first time I really noticed Mastodon was their Seth Meyers gig (which by the way - seems to have been taken down for some reason?) - but yeah, seeing their live performance really put into context what it is they actually do - with the duelling guitars and singing drummer and what not. In Relapse you can hear their influence from other bands, and honestly, they sounded like every other metal band. But they have come a long way. But, if you don't like them, why are you still listening?
@frenchtoast23192 жыл бұрын
@@arttucker6678 mastodon was my favorite band for quite a few years and so with every album they release i give a listen in the hopes that its not this neo emo crap. Ill say this. This album is 10x better than their last two efforts. Gojira is a better example of a band that has evolved and yet still sounds like themselves. The only thing that sounds similar to mastodon is their instrumental, underwater-esque guitars and ramping drums. Mastodons early stuff was unique at the time, maybe now comparing them to "every other metal band" they sound alike, but thats because so many have tried to capture what mastodon once had. How mastodon lost their singer right before they blew up and troy stepped up to do vocals, and made up the lyrics since none of them knew what the original lyrics were, gave them a less polished feel, in the best way possible. What really gets at me is how everyone loves brann's vocals, i feel like im listening to maroon 5 when he sings. He knocked the creature lives out of the park, its a great song and his voice is perfect for it. But the way the band seems to pedestal him on their 2 previous albums, which were terrible, shows their lack of self awareness. Their audience has mostly changed, while there are still a lot of die hard mastodon fans, there are a whole lot of new fans. They adapted to whats popular in the mainstream, which isn't always a bad thing, but to me, it feels like they've lost the original vision of their music. Leviathan is a classic, crack the skye was game changing, i even enjoyed blood mountain and the hunter quite a bit. If i remember correctly, the hunter is where they really started lossing the OG fans, but it was still solid in my book. This album, i need to listen a few more times. I think i'll like it after digesting it a bit, it does feel more in line with their earlier work than once more and emperor. Im not against the band, i want them to be good. They just let me down for the last 10 years or so.

Good God what I would give to be able to wipe my memory of Mastadon and re-experience their entire discography again.

I would say their older shit is way better than this. This isn't honestly mastodon IMO. But great band!!!

Thank you for this one, Mastodon. It's beauty and introspection such as this that is a light in the current darkness.

One of the catchiest hypnotic mastodon riffs ever. So good

Its such a great song, load of progression, amazing riffs and a vocal style which is just sensational and that solo!

Love it. The acoustic version of this is outstanding. It's a tough call, but Mastodon might have possibly overtaken Killswitch in my Top 3. 😬

Agreed! We all love Troy as a singer but he's a great bassist too. Loved hearing him show off a bit on this track.

Once again showing their range. It’s not a matter of genre, they just make good music. They could put out a blue grass album and it would be awesome.

I would actually listen the shit out of that. A bluegrass effort with Brent (ofc) and Brann on the leads
