"Teardrinker" Within a bruised heart I'll just say when Just one time before It will come again Little voice inside Inside my head Tell me when it's time to turn around again All appears to fade away I can see your face And I feel the pain And I feel the shame that I have let you down again People everywhere Not a drop to drink Not a dare to think about the damage I have done Try to give up what weighs What weighs you down The only control you have Is all your own Do I fit the pieces Together again Or do I leave them lying on the floor? All appears to fade away I can see your face And I feel the pain And I feel the shame that I have let you down again People everywhere Not a drop to drink Not a dare to think about the damage I have done Leaving you behind Is the hardest thing I've done Asking where did I go wrong? I wonder what all of this makes Does fortune favor the bold? I only know that leaving you Was the hardest thing To cut and run I can see your face And I feel the pain And I feel the shame that I have let you down again People everywhere Not a drop to drink Not a dare to think about the damage I have done

I dissagree. Brann is technically the best, also live. But Brent his timbre is much more special, more melancholic.. the hunter, last baron, the czar, jaguar God, cold dark place Actually in my opinion, they probably will never write as good as melancholic songs because they tend to give Brent less lyrics, to perform "better" live Or am I wrong..

I'm sorry for your loss, this album is certainly a palliative for the pain of losing a loved one. My dad was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer on September 4 last year and then this was released, it became my most listened song of the year on Spotify. I was overseas when he got diagnosed, the soonest I could travel to see him was October, I booked the tickets for the 29th of October then that same morning Hushed and grim was dropped. Exactly two months later my dad passed away 29th of December, this album really hit me right in the feelings. especially knowing bills mum died of brain cancer too..

The first time I really noticed Mastodon was their Seth Meyers gig (which by the way - seems to have been taken down for some reason?) - but yeah, seeing their live performance really put into context what it is they actually do - with the duelling guitars and singing drummer and what not. I love this song, but may well have overlooked it if not for seeing how it was done.

Saw them live in 2012 in Myrtle Beach, SC at the House of Blues with Ghost and Opeth. Troy and Brann were on point with the vocals so was Brent. Seeing Brann crushing his drums and killing it vocaly live was really a site to see. People don't realize how hard it is to drum and sing at the same time, especially without making your breathing noticeable.

Their last album was made during great personal turmoil, and it showed. As strong as it was, it felt to me like working through tragedy, with many bright spots, but also a lot of uncertainty. So far from these two tracks, I’m picking up a much more reflective vibe. Looking back on the past with more clarity, sadness, regret, but above all else, love. I cannot wait for the full album. ❤️

*LYRICS* Within a bruised heart I'll just say when Just one time before It will come again Little voice inside Inside my head Tell me when it's time to turn around again All appears to fade away I can see your face And I feel the pain And I feel the shame that I have let you down again People everywhere Not a drop to drink Not a dare to think about the damage I have done Try to give up what weighs What weighs you down The only control you have Is all your own Do I fit the pieces together again Or do I leave them lying on the floor? All appears to fade away I can see your face And I feel the pain And I feel the shame that I have let you down again People everywhere Not a drop to drink Not a dare to think about the damage I have done Leaving you behind Is the hardest thing I've done Asking where did I go wrong? I wonder what all of this makes Does fortune favor the bold? I only know that leaving you Was the hardest thing To cut and run I can see your face And I feel the pain And I feel the shame that I have let you down again People everywhere Not a drop to drink Not a dare to think about the damage I have done

I first discovered Mastodon by accident as a kid long time ago and it's been with me throughout my life for quite some time, the good like meeting my fiancee & sharing happy memories, to losing her and my mother as well, and each time I hear "leaving you behind is the hardest thing I've done, asking where did I go wrong?" "I only know leaving you was the hardest thing, to cut and run" It always gets to me everytime and sends a spear though my heart.

@@frenchtoast2319 Why? In what way? I can't think of any other band who's sound has changed over the years but has also kept its roots and sounded both like themselves, but also added brand new sounds. I have all their CDs. In Relapse you can hear their influence from other bands, and honestly, they sounded like every other metal band. But they have come a long way. But, if you don't like them, why are you still listening?
@frenchtoast2319
@frenchtoast2319 2 жыл бұрын
@@arttucker6678 mastodon was my favorite band for quite a few years and so with every album they release i give a listen in the hopes that its not this neo emo crap. Ill say this. This album is 10x better than their last two efforts. Gojira is a better example of a band that has evolved and yet still sounds like themselves. The only thing that sounds similar to mastodon is their instrumental, underwater-esque guitars and ramping drums. Mastodons early stuff was unique at the time, maybe now comparing them to "every other metal band" they sound alike, but thats because so many have tried to capture what mastodon once had. How mastodon lost their singer right before they blew up and troy stepped up to do vocals, and made up the lyrics since none of them knew what the original lyrics were, gave them a less polished feel, in the best way possible. What really gets at me is how everyone loves brann's vocals, i feel like im listening to maroon 5 when he sings. He knocked the creature lives out of the park, its a great song and his voice is perfect for it. But the way the band seems to pedestal him on their 2 previous albums, which were terrible, shows their lack of self awareness. Their audience has mostly changed, while there are still a lot of die hard mastodon fans, there are a whole lot of new fans. They adapted to whats popular in the mainstream, which isn't always a bad thing, but to me, it feels like they've lost the original vision of their music. Leviathan is a classic, crack the skye was game changing, i even enjoyed blood mountain and the hunter quite a bit. If i remember correctly, the hunter is where they really started lossing the OG fans, but it was still solid in my book. This album, i need to listen a few more times. I think i'll like it after digesting it a bit, it does feel more in line with their earlier work than once more and emperor. Im not against the band, i want them to be good. They just let me down for the last 10 years or so.

@@johnsnider2956 I thought a bunch of songs off of Emperor of Sand were a great mix of heavy and melodic, especially towards the end of the album. Fallen Torches (song, not the whole album) was a little more of a lament in my opinion, but still had some great weight. Plus anything with Kelly is pretty heavy in general. However, I agree that an entire record like that would be fucking SICK.
