A comparison between old and present day Masvingo.
Previously known as Fort Victoria Masvingo is the oldest town in Zimbabwe. Out of enthusiasm for the history of the city we decided to make this short video comparing how the city has changed over the years.

It'll always be Fort Victoria. And that's because the people who build something get to name it.

Nope, because these Natives, who created and contributed to absolutely nothing of the technology and infrastructure get to take it over. Why? Because why not.

So the differences are way back in Rhodesia there were fences that stood straight up, but in Zimbabwe not anymore, roads were in fantastic condition,, but not anymore, buildings had paint, many don’t anymore, Roads had paint markings on, not anymore, Roads were maintained and repaired long ago, not anymore. 99% of all buildings were built pre independence, not much infrastructure added since 1980. Quite sad actually that we have not been able to better or exceed what the colonials achieved in the time they controlled our country. Let’s face the facts. The colonials came to an empty land and built all this in 50 years, we have had it for 40 years and have not achieved much at all. We seem to be going backwards if we are honest with ourselves. Our roads are deteriorating, yet there are are five times as many cars on the road now than there were in Rhodesia. Where are our taxes going. They certainly aren’t going back into the roads and development. It’s the same in every government department, sewage spills onto the streets, electricity shortages, food shortages, hospitals are inadequate, trains don’t run anymore, filth and litter spread across streets and entire country, hawkers occupy the pavements where we were once able to walk, there is human waste in the ally’s and the stench of urine is overwhelming because public toilets don’t work or have not been expanded to cater for the population growth. It’s good you have done this comparison because it shows our failures to build and improve on. We need to stop kidding ourselves that the colonials are to blame for our problems and face the facts that our country is sick and dying because of the Fat corrupt Zimbabwean politicians that have become wealthy beyond our wildest dreams on the taxes we pay for the upkeep of our towns and infrastructure. The entire continent is broken, let’s be honest, we don’t do anything, we just watch or let others do the work. The Chinese are taking over. Big projects are run virtually entirely by the Chinese from architect to builder. We just watch. Even the Sheraton hotel in Harare was built by foreigners. We need to wake up.

How does it feel to know the real truth? The white man is NOT your enemy. You Sadza Snake, are smart. You have to spread the real truth to the people of Zimbabwe (RHODESIA). The white man was the one that created and established all of these for BOTH THE WHITE AND BLACK PEOPLES. Because before the WHITE MAN, the BLACK PEOPLES did NOT HAVE SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS or EVEN A WRITTEN LANGUAGE in that area. So, the WHITE MAN is your friend, and you should NEVER BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU. (DO NOT ATTACK THE WHITE MAN, FOR HE HAS PROVIDED SO MUCH TO THE PEOPLE OF AFRICA). WHILE THE TRUE ENEMY THE ENTIRE TIME, was your OWN PEOPLE. ROBERT MUGABE, the COMMUNIST was given the 2nd MOST POWERFUL COUNTRY IN AFRICA, SUPPOSEDLY TO HELP "EMPOWER" THE BLACK POPULATION, YET HE ENSLAVED AND RAN THE COUNTRY TO THE GROUND. FINANCIAL RUIN, BUILDINGS CRUMBLING, CHILDREN STARVING, NO PEOPLE ON THE FARMS, NO FOOD. ROBERT MUGABE THE COMMUNIST. OH RHODESIA, A TIME IT WAS.

This is fascinating. "Le plus que change, le plus c'est la meme chose". The more that changes, the more remains the same. In this literally, not figuratively. Pity that the Durawalls block the view of some of the buildings. Lawns and gardens are easier on the eye than concrete. We would groceries here in the early 90s while making trips to Kyle (now Mutirikwi), as well as great Zimbabwe. I see we have some of the hardcore elements of the Rhodesia nostalgia crew spilling thier vitriol on this forum. Not all whites agree with them, just so you know.

not much difference is noticeable here from 1928, maybe only camera quality has been improving recently to take better pictures.

Because the Natives don't contribute to anything. They were given the 2nd most powerful country in Africa, and ran it to the ground. Because they can't do anything right.

Nothing has changed at all in terms of infrastructure, it’s sad and disappointing. African independence doesn’t mean anything, it was better to leave Rhodesians running the show.
