Dude you're my personal hero! I have a spices company and I recently made my first vlog in Morocco (searching for spices). Africa is a continent I am fascinated by. My home town of Middlesbrough in the North-East of England, was actually twinned with Masvingo for a number of years. I would see it on the signs 'welcome to Middlesbrough, twinned with Masvingo, Zimbabwe' so it's somewhere I've always felt drawn to. I can't wait to watch more of your videos. Kind Regards Peter Mckeone @ Diablo Seasonings

Point of correction white farmers were not asked to leave the country. Its only that thier farms were taken away but they could have relocated anywhere in Zimbabwe as long as it was not a farm. Like the land invasions did not affect those whites that lived in the cities.

Thank you, my thoughts exactly! I appreciate that he paused before using the word "encouraged" but it definitely tells a different story. I grew up on a farm between Gweru and Shurugwi, and I vividly remember properties up the road being attacked, and some burnt to the ground, one by one getting closer. I was 11 and we had to pack our things and go. We drove away as a neighbouring property came under attack. Many families lost more than just homes and livelihoods. It's a series of events that gets ignored in history more often than not.

Thanks very much for this. I used to live here until March 1985, things have changed, the Immigration building at the end used to be the Post Office, which is somewhere I frequented weekly. The town has grown rather larger, crowded, and out of control. The original town name was Victoria, then Fort Victoria, then Nyanda from about May to November 1982, and now Masvingo. Nyanda / Nehanda was the name of an African witch (female liberation wars heroine) executed by the British for fomenting rebellion in the 1890s. For the general viewer on KZbin, an excursion by you to the Zimbabwe Ruins would have been rewarding. There used to be a Maxim machine gun up in the remaining tower of the fort behind the courthouse, which you nearly walked past, it could be still there...

@@ewright4108 Five, but not features, longest ran about 25 minutes "Madeleine's Spelling Gambols". I cannot afford 16mm any more... E Wright in the comments and "1985" reminded me several days ago of Kieran, but E is not K ? Although the combination E K Wright works for me. I hope you care to email me, you can use ******* at **** dot com After Fort Vic I joined Australian Volunteers Abroad and was in Western Samoa from 1986 to 1992. I then prematurely retired and have not worked since. Currently I am a voluntary custodian at a closed-for-Coronavirus technical museum in Denmark, with an acute shortage of visitors. I am also a cyclist (surprised Xavier finds 100km in a day a challenge, there are Danes who can cruise on bikes long distances at about a steady 35kph). I had the idea Xavier could visit the museum and me (to publicise the museum and because not by accident I have a private "international conveyance" and sleep aboard it - small, 10 ton - replica of an early 1800s Danish wooden sailing ship). Incidentally, if you are Kieran, do you sail, can you swim, and do you want to crew to Sicily / Sardinia / Corsica ?

This type of comment is really sad when people like you who don't understand the history of the country just spout incorrect information. Victoria was NOT the original name of the town. There were people living there way before Europeans invaded the area. Madzimbabwe (so called Zimbabwe Ruins) was the same size in population as London back in the 13th century. Also, wtf do you mean that Nehanda was a witch? What the f is wrong with you with your whitewashed history from a European lense!!!

It saddens me so to see how my hometown where I was born and raised now looks like this. All because of the greed of Politicians who promised the people the world and gave them this Ruin. People used to go to Rhodesia to see the Zimbabwe Ruins, Now they go to Zimbabwe to see the Rhodesian Ruins. God Bless my home town. Maybe one day when the politics changes it will be restored to its former glory.

You mean the Zimbabwe ruins which the Rhodesians tried to destroy because they didn't believe Africans could have created it? Spare us the hypocrisy
