I didn't serve but my grandpa did, my uncle's did... three of them, two made it back....my dad did and many of my friends and acquaintances did. My Mother handed down to me the Purple Heart that my Uncle earned during WW 2 and I still have it today. I am lucky, my wife does not know one gun from another. And I am constantly shooting outside my house. So when I come home from the gun store. Just leave it in my truck for about an hour, then go outside retrieve the gun shoot it a couple of times. Then bring it into the house. She thinks it's one I already had. Depends on the gun. Some have great recoil management so it isn't that hard.

The Semi-automatic action absorbs a lot of the recoil, and that enormous muzzle break disperses a bunch of the recoil too.
