I think it’s plausible. The US kills it in events where teamwork and skill are the most important/winning factor. But the US gets killed in the events where strength/power/endurance are the most important factors. I remember watching the 1996 Olympics. I used to be a competitive swimmer and at the elite level it takes 6 months of work to shave off 1/10 of a second. At the Olympics I watched this female Irish swimmer, Michelle Smith, take the gold medal in her event. I immediately cried doping. My Irish friends (who were happy for her as they should be) called me a racist. I didn't that coming from left field. Smith beat her personal best by 4 seconds. At that level it's impossible. Sure enough, a year later her gold medal was stripped away because of doping. I said it about Lance Armstrong. I said it about her. Look at Alex Rodriguez. He's earned $350 million playing baseball while doping. The world has amnesia and he is still making money hand over fist. It pays to dope.

I guess you don't watch UFC where Joe calls the fight based on who he likes and not who is winning like last weekend Jan vs Izzy. Turns out the feints didn't matter.

@@wakilikirimi I liked when Rogan said Izzy was out striking Jan by a wide margin after the 2nd round and then immediately after they said Jan was leading significant strikes 32-22.

Lol a crossfitter talking about being clean... If "normal" people are juicing in gyms, what makes you think pro are not?

Normal people don't have to worry about losing their dayjob over popping, and aren't regulated since they aren't competing in anything.

So if it was normal to dope in the 70s, and records are still being broken today....... If you know many junkies, you'll know how natural it is to lie.
@jsquared10132 жыл бұрын
Regular training methods and sports science has also come a LONG way since then. I am not that deep into the lifting or Olympic type stuff, but compare hockey, soccer, football, etc athletes in the 70s to now, just basic stuff (or what we'd call basic now) about rest/recovery, nutrition, etc was practically absent. Examples being guys in the modern Premier League, having nutritionists scrutinizing their meals on a daily basis, GPS monitoring during training with a worn meter so they can track km run and correlate with heartrate over time to alter their off-pitch training regime, etc, then look at guys from the 90's still going out for a few pints after training every day or eating horribly unhealthy meals pre-match 😅😅
@BigShephard2 жыл бұрын
@@jsquared1013 You make a fair point. As a former drug user and current nutrional fanatic, I can say that for the short term drugs are much more powerful at enhancing performance. A good diet and rest supports longevity. You wouldn't notice much difference in the short run when living healthy, especially at a young age.

USA is also one of the few countries who doesn’t take care of the Olympic athletes. They have to depend on private endorsements or get jobs while still trying to train full time.

I love the fact that Mat Fraser's parents were both figure skaters. I'm sure he has an appreciation for the sport that most straight, macho, white guys don't give a sh*t about. I once read an article in the New York Time science section about ice skating. It was an article about the physics of the "quadruple axle" (4 1/2 revolutions in the air, not the lutz or toe loop). Some scientists think it's a physical impossibility. Not one ice skater in the world has been able to land it in international competition. So while sports writers think that hitting a fast ball is the hardest thing is sports, ice skaters know the truth.
