The towel has many benefits beyond general strength training. A towel is a great tool for working towards better posture. The proprioceptive feedback of the towel improves shoulder stabilization and aids in spine articulation. We’ll also use it for stretching and bolstering. Bolstering, or supporting, a body part with a towel can assist you in finding proper alignment which will make the Pilates mat exercises more effective and produce better results.
When you are working out at home it’s a good idea to approach exercises a little more cautiously than you do in your studio’s in person classes. At home there is no one watching your form. Even if you are taking an online class where the teacher is watching you it isn’t easy to see the nuances of your movement.
