I’ve had this bag for over a year now and I rate it highly! I’ve used it mostly for domestic travel and it works well for me. It provides a general amount of organization, where you need it. I can just dump my gear where I need to and I know where to grab it. It carries everything you would need for a long weekend+, and it feels more spacious than a 28 L bag. You can be less organized or as organized as you want. It’s very comfortable, lightweight, and fairly intuitive, as people may think with all the pockets, you can get lost. There is some truth, but most of the time, you’re packing stuff that you don’t need to take out regularly, which reduces which pockets you need to go to. I think it’s an excellent bag and it does the one thing most important for me, get me out of the door and into the world!

Was wondering does it work as a personal item on flights where you can shove it under the seat or is it too cumbersome and big for that?
@philipbeadle64466 ай бұрын
I have this bag and like it a lot. I use it for road trips, and carry on only flights. I like that it makes packing simple.
@ChristopherPiini6 ай бұрын
Chase, I own this bag. The key to packing this one is to ignore the outside pockets and just pack all your clothes into the main compartment and use the outside compartments as additional quick access or stuffing a light jacket during travels.
@jcap83915 ай бұрын
This is exactly how I was going to use it. I drive long distances. Would this work for just sweater inside and tech cords journal pens edc snacks on outside?
@ChristopherPiini5 ай бұрын
@@jcap8391Yes, you could pack it that way. I would try to use pouches for smaller items. If you throw a pen in there it might get lost due to the excess pocket material now being bunched up.
@scootermcgoot3 ай бұрын
yea that makes no sense at all. why buy this bag if you arent going to use the compartments lmao.

@@scootermcgoot That’s how I use it, love it, great bag, makes sense to me.

I saw this bag last year and I've been dying to see it reviewed by someone who knows their stuff like you. Thank you so much! I pack pretty light. The 28L is the right size for people like me-- but there's people who want to carry the kitchen sink and the larger bags are for them. I'd leave it in my hotel room and use a sling bag as my main carry when traveling. The segments would be used like the shelf you mentioned, but then the interior would be the dirty laundry section so I wouldn't compromise the rest of my clothes.

I have the Seg45. Really love it for weekend roadtrips where I won't be carrying the bag much.

I've become a huge Matador fan, they really make great stuff.

I own the SEG45, and it's absolutely fantastic! My only gripe is no stiff back support, so no real easy way to stash a laptop, even in a sleeve, without risking some damage.
@steverice40186 ай бұрын
How are you just now reviewing this? I just got the white version. Probably going to use it on a two week trip to London and Sarajevo in a couple months. I've also got the original SEG30 and SEG45. The 30 is more basic than the 28 but also weighs half at just over a pound. I took it to Spain for a 15 day trip hopping around Madrid and southern Spain. Used it with a Peak Design 6 liter sling for my cameras. Loved the organization and light weight. It was reasonably comfortable enough. Plenty of room even with a snorkel and mask. Haven't needed the size of the 45 yet. I think the nicer steps and compression straps on the 28 will be a nice upgrade. At the same time I haven't minded using a more open bag like my Goruck Rucker 33 with Peak Design packing cubes and pouches.

Not one single person here has mentioned that it has a ridiculous little hip belt. About to buy one of these bags and get a proper padded 40mm padded belt sewn on !

I’m a big supporter of packing cubes so I think that this would be right up my alley! It’s a cool bag and I may look at getting one

In my search for a travel duffle, this was on my top 3. The organization on this is amazing but having the droopy pockets take up the entire volume of the bag and having small zippers to move things in and out of made me second guess it.
@steverice40186 ай бұрын
You can use the pockets, the main compartment, or a combination of both. The SEG30 worked great and the original only weighed 1.5 pounds.

I have this bag and would highly recommend.. you definitely need packing cubes and dopp kits and things of that sort for more organization. But worth it. Did get it with a discount at REI.

Packing cubes inside, then laundry goes into the segments. Saying that it can be the other way around, fresh clothes in the segment and laundry inside.

I don't know if this is ideal, but I've long wished for a bag where I can carry tech stuff or non-clothing without it all piling up at the bottom. I appreciate that they gave it a try here by making what's essentially a backpack/bookshelf. I have wondered if there's a way to do this in a more standard backpack enclosure without so many external zippers... I can imagine what the experience would be like if I'm not 100% sure of where I packed certain items. Cool video as always Chase! Matador is awesome for their innovation - hope they keep at it.

Saw this at an Adenture Van Expo 2 weeks ago and 1. Immediately thought of you. 2. Wanted so bad to buy it, but I was there to empty wallet on other stuff for our van. Watching this hurts my soul now.

Love your reviews and videos! I bought the matador globerider 45 last year and it's been a game changer for me; works perfectly for my packing process and style. Your review on it really helped me discover this brand. Love your work!

To answer your questions at the end of your video: Yes! Absolutely your reviews are useful! Best travel bag reviewer on KZbin hands down. Love that you show all the features and how a bag would work packed out. Super clear with your descriptions and talk about the material and build quality too. I also love that you manage to do it in good length videos (not too long). Helped me realize how some bags are not for me, for example, these SEG series bags (I don't pack in a way that would work with this style bag). P.s. I also use the Matador packable duffle with my globerider. Perfect combo so I still have a day bag, or an easy access bag for when I want it.

I wonder if they could put some snaps or G hooks or something that could anchor the back or each drawer to lend it some structure without adding too much weight. It would be okay of it were cumbersome because you would only use it if you wanted to use the drawers.. Man I bet those folks have fun designing these bags

Super interesting bag! Side note: I periodically try to use your western rise links for the pants, but they are usually out of stock in the size and colors I want. I’ll keep checking back via your website. I think I used your site to pick up some huckberry wool tees.

😂the shelves thing doesn't work unless you really stuff the bottom ones to their max. in the end it feels like retro daypacks that's decided into two compartments in the middle. I think the mystery ranch 3-zip bags works better in real life.
@BumblebeeElectron6 ай бұрын
I love the quality of the bag and the amount of thought that went into it. But itʻs pretty much the opposite of the kind of bag I like. My ideal is a simple box with a good suspension and the least amount of organization, which I can then customize with pouches and packing cubes. My day bag is where I want all the built-in organization. Itʻs almost impossible to find that unorganized box that I want, but if the bag is light enough, I can live with the pockets I wonʻt use. If I were going someplace warm, say Southeast Asia, I would take a Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC (30 liters, 2 lbs 13 oz) and a Timbuk2 classic messenger bag, extra small.

Chase I wish you go back to do bag reviews when you used to compare the bag to other bags. I also think the video cuts/transitions where a bit too much on this video. I prefer less transitions and hearing you word the complete thought and not just cut out. I prefer a slower pace. Other than that great review thank you!

Extra bags with it would be cool to see but I think the point is that the bag is so unique there’s not much to compare it to. I felt the transitions were fine.

super useful review. glad you made it. I like Matador. I love my Matador Beast 28. My favorite lightweight hiking and snowboarding bag. I've been curious about this bag for a long time. They carry it at REI now. The design is funky, the ripstop nylon patter reminds me of a tom bihn bag a little. Definitely not my packing style. Seems not useful as a daypack.
