Texas is beyond beautiful! Watching Texas country reporter go from the mountains of big bend to the shores of the gulf coast reminds me how blessed I am to call Texas home! I’m from Victoria so Port O Connor is about 35 minutes from me & I go to big bend or the hill country every chance I get mostly just to wander around & enjoy the views they never get old!

Thank you Bob for what you and Kelli do. I enjoy all of your epesodes but this was one of the best. And another thing, Kelli looked really good, you might even say radiant in the video. Her new hair style really suits her. God Bless both of you. Paul

I became acquainted with Texas Country Reporter through one of those DVD sets. Most all very good. But you got the feeling that after doing hundreds of these, the pickins were getting slim. I haven't watched all, so I'm sure there were some good ones. THIS ONE is a winner because it's unique. Unique Texas setting. Unique man. Only man on an island - Matagordo Bay on one side, a mile to the Gulf on the other side. Be nice if they were all this interesting.

Well if you follow the coast you can actually be at matagorda, they have a public beach that I went to last weekend. It’s very nice! We stayed in bay city which was about 25 min away!

I was stationed there with the US Air Force for a few months in 1972 in between tours in south east Asia. Wasn't my favorite assignment in the Air Force, but I remember my time there fondly.

My dad was on Matagorda Island in the 60s at the base. Is this the same place? Most of the buildings out there are gone. We took our mountain bikes out there a few years ago and saw the lighthouse. We have been there a few times now.

I worked for TL Wynn’s Star Brand Cattle Co on Matagorda Island during the summer breaks from Sul Ross State University in the early 80’s. Was more than 10 full time folks living on the Island ranch back then, I loved and miss that Island life.

My grandpa and his family owned a major part of Matagorda Island and had a large cattle operation there until the government seized the land for the war effort. They were told once the war was over the land would be returned but that never actually happened.. For some reason the Wynns retained their property even though our family was told they couldn’t. You may have heard of them, The Hawes family.

@@andrewr022488 I was told that Texas Parks & Wildlife took control of the Wynn Ranch after I left there, I’ve lost contact with everyone I worked with on the island. Yes there were good ranches on that island, sorry your family land was taken away.

Curious how he keeps his 12 volt system and propane replenished. Solar can recharge the batteries, but propane would need to be delivered to the island somehow. Either way, he seems very reaourceful and comfortable with his situation

Nice story but inaccurate. This is a private island. It is not Matagorda Island! The gentleman tries to explain that they are on Matagorda Peninsula and not on Matagorda Island when they arrive. While this is very close, Matagorda Island is on the other side of Pass Cavallo from where this was shot. Matagorda Island is jointly owned by US Fish and Wildlife and the Texas GLO. It is currently a wildlife management area and there are no houses like this on the Matagorda island. Sorry, but this story will only confuse people trying to visit the real Matagorda Island.
@mariobros11905 жыл бұрын
The guy clearly stated that they were on Matagorda Peninsula not Matagorda Island.

My great great great grandfather George S Pentecost was one of Austins 300 , he was given that land ( Matagorda County ) from the Mexican government.

@ea4602 Жыл бұрын
@@embarkmcc I really don't think so. By that time that whole area was Mexico. It would be the Mexican government who would have been abusive toward that tribe.

Its a barren wasteland of biting flies snakes and sand. They ruined those coves by building all those houses there. Theres a spot called the cattle pens just east of there. Used to be a great big trout spot in the winter. Totally ruined now by a bunch of houses. Its a shame.

We each need to turn to our loving triune God the Father, the Son Jesus Christ our Savior, and the Holy Spirit for forgiveness and salvation (the only way to avoid hell when we die) and for His guidance through this VERY troubled, temporary world in to eternal life with Him one day. God's word the Holy Bible guides us in to all truth. We have hope in the Lord if we turn to Him.
