The Ginyu Force and Cooler's squadron are based on Japanese Tokusatsu superos like Super Sentai (Power Rangers) and Kamen rider, which do a lot of flamboyant poses, to answer that question. Also, the Star Wars conversation with piccolo was with nail, the namekian he fused with on namek last season that stayed in his head, not creators commentary

Akira Toriyama is the name of DragonBall's creator, but Goku naming the bird Toriyama is also because the Japanese word for bird is pronounced as tori.

As others mentioned, hold off on the 2nd Cooler movie until you watch the first 10 episodes of Season 3. Also not sure if anyone mentioned this but saiyan names are based on vegetables (Kakarot = carrot, Raditz = radish, Vegeta = vegetable). Piccolo's family names are based on musical instruments. You catch more of that in the original DB series when Goku is a kid. Frieza's family names are based on the cold like Cooler, King Cold and others.

Shredder first came out in 1984 so he is older than Cooler in fact But Cooler wasn't inspired by him Like Frieza's 3rd form was inspired by the Xenomorphs, Cooler's 5th form with the mask was inspired by Predator

Technically, Mat didn't just mention Shredder, but specifically Super Shredder from TMNT 2. I'd imagine neither inspired the other, given that both Super Shredder and Cooler first appeared in 1991.

It's Nail inside Piccolo's mind (the other Warrior-class Namekian that looked almost identical to Piccolo that fused with him back on Frieza Saga, after Piccolo was brought back to life (TeamFourStar decided to keep him in Piccolo's head for added humor)

So a few things you guys might have missed: -Cooler used some movie quotes "Avon calling" and a variation of Bane's quote from Dark Knight Rises. That's also why Goku using a Snicker's reference was responded with "I feel like we are missing some context here." It's also a direct reference to what he says to Frieza after he goes super saiyan which is "I'm going to break you, like a kit-kat bar." -Toriyama comes back in season 3 -I would wait to watch the other Cooler movie until you watch episode 36 of the show. I'm going to type out the watch order for you guys, since I know no one has done that for you yet. The movies aren't canon, but they reference stuff that is in the actual show. So the second Cooler movie will make 0 sense to you. -None of the movies are canon, and the dragon (Icarus) is only in the movies. So TFS always kills him off as a running movie gag.
