The problem is that when you're going into a relationship with a person with a kid , you have to realize that your relationship is never the priority. The priority is her kid. And having a kid means having less time to go on dates , less time to just spend time togheter , less time even to have sex. A lot of her free time will be ocupied by the kid - and if that just happens to be also when you have your own free time , it can mean that you get to spend no time togheter anymore. On top of all that , you will have to deal with the ex a lot fo the times , because for good or for worse , your gf and him still have a kid togheter. That means that he won't ever be permanently out of your couplelife. Lastly , when you're dating someone with a kid , it's kinda expected to take some responsability for the kid as well , and that's horrible. You get all the responsability of being a parent , but none of the authority. The kid will almost never respect you or your opinion as if you were his parent. Every important decision that needs to be made in regards to him , will be done by his actual parents , regardless of how involved you are in raising him , and lastly .....if you ever actually get to bond with him , and get emotionally attached , but you break up with mom , it means losing him as well , since you're not his parent. Being a step-parent is just a loss-loss. So , as wonderful as some single moms could be , the issues i have with them have very little to do with their own personality , but more with the inconvenience that an relationship like that has to deal with.
