​@@Drchainsaw77According to Wikipedia there were between 6,000 and 8,000 people in attendance and 167 people died. Most people who were there survived the tragedy, so it's plausible that person's mother would have been among the many survivors. Not a guarantee that she would have died had she been there, but a frightening possibility. It had to be a horrific thing to experience and live through.

Richard's 22 victories in 76 attempts (28.94%) is fairly consistent with that winning percentage, a difference of only -8.72%. Richard lost 54 times, Betty/Charles/Jo Ann/Bert/Brett lost 48 times in basically the same number of tries. Typically you could expect the contestants to make the head to head match roughly once in every three tries regardless of who they picked. It was meant to be hard to win. Back then $5,000 could buy a winning contestant a brand new 1974 Ford Mustang (approx $3500). That was a lot of money to give away. You'd go broke if the contestants always won 2500 or 5K.

Jo Ann needed to listen to the song "Tell Laura I Love Her" more closely. It had nothing to do with prison or the electric chair. The singer had wrecked his race car at the track, and knew that he was dying. That's why he kept saying, "Tell Laura I Love Her."
