True. There was no nostalgia factor for game shows or soap operas until the late 1980s. These probably got shoved away or erased and/or recorded over. Somebody was really lucky to save these rare episodes..

End-of-week H/H match recap: ... ~~~Today's action: Too much chicken "do-do" on the panel (instead of chicken bones) cost our champion the game, but at least she won $2,850. Now a new champion steps up to center stage to try his luck and skill... Today's audience match question: "Freddie _________" (My thoughts: Another name... Well, Freddie Prinze was popular then, starring in "Chico and the Man", Freddie Mercury might be less well-known among the MG studio audience, but still a possibility, ???) The celebs: Richard (Prinze), Charles (Fender), and Brett (the Freeloader -- a Red Skelton character) The choice: Prinz The answers: The Freeloader, Fender, Prinze -- (Again, the celebs got all the answers, and in the proper order!) This next part -- guessing who a new champion will choose for the H/H -- is possibly my favorite moment of the game! I'm going to say Richard... Well, it looks like the tide has turned back to Richard after that amazing flirtation with CNR. Richard has only matched once in his five most recent attempts... Today's H/H question: "Stuffed __________ " (Another question that's not a sure win. I'm thinking stuffed shirt. It's a common expression, maybe more familiar then than it is now. What else? Some stuffed food item of some sort? Stuffed animal as in Teddy bear? Hmm. I'll go with shirt.) Our new champion looks puzzled, like nothing really jumped out at him when Gene read the question. Richard doesn't spend much time writing his answer, casting a quick glance to Patti before filing his card. The camera angle was too high to afford me any useful information this time regarding the possible length of his answer... "Animal" our champion says with confidence. I think it's as good an answer as any, possibly the best choice. I honestly don't think there is a single definitive answer, but then, maybe Richard will reveal one I haven't thought of... No, not really. Richard wrote "Turkey." (This is one of those instances when I think the contestant gave a better answer than Richard.) No match today. ~~~End-of-week H/H match recap: A pretty routine week: five days, five H/H questions, three matches: Charles 2/3, Richard 1/2 Well, this was a tale of two kings. The first three days continued the unprecedented reign of King Charles I as monarch of the head-to-head match, racking up a total of seven consecutive plays (five of them matches). Then the last two days saw King Richard I reclaim his throne as absolute ruler of the H/H Match. He has long been the runaway favorite choice of contestants, and CNR's seven-day streak didn't even put a dent in Richard's position. If you add the number of times Charles, Brett, Betty, and Fannie have been selected to play, you get 163. Richard now has played 416 times, which is about 2.5 times as often as those four celebs combined. Yet, when it comes to actually matching the contestants, well, that's a whole other story, as you can see from the leader board (at the end of this comment). Brett finishes the week unchanged, obviously, hanging on to her one-percentage-point lead over Richard. Patti also ends her 22nd week (of 42) at 1 for 2 in the head-to-head match. Tom Poston finishes his first of only two weeks without being selected for the H/H. Barbara Sharma never played the H/H and never returned to Match Game '7x. ~~~Looking ahead to next week, our three regulars will be joined by one very familiar face, one returning guest panelist, and one "new kid on the block," namely: -----Semi-regular Betty White, whose last appearance was three weeks ago. This is now her 36th week of 75 total. She remains locked in a tie with Fannie at a 50% accuracy rate in the head-to-head match (and Charles has joined and then left that tie three times in the past two weeks). -----Greg Morris, who returns to the #1 seat for his fourth week (of seven total). This is his first appearance since the week of 376-370, and he hasn't yet been chosen for the H/H match. -----And Anitra Ford, the latest in a growing number of recent female celebs to spend a single week in the #4 seat, never to appear on the show again. ~~~Finally, here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.)
