H/H match update: ... ~~~Today's action: Our champion cruises to an easy second victory. *Today's audience match question: "Duke of________"* (My thoughts: Earl, Windsor, Edinburgh) The celebs: Barbara (Kent), Avery (Earl), Charles (Windsor) The choice: Earl The answers: Wellington, Windsor, Earl I like that she chose a different set of stars for suggestions. At least we got to see the two guest panelists (Betty is a semi-regular) contribute to the Super-Match. Now if only she'll call on one of them for the head-to-head. The champ did just remark that "Earl" was her first thought too, so she and Avery seem to be on the same wavelength. But will she call on him? I doubt it. She did match Richard yesterday, after all... "My friend Richard," she says. This is now King Richard's 27th consecutive H/H attempt. Stats: Richard has matched 137 of his 314 most recent attempts (43.6%), 76 of his last 174 attempts (43.7%), 29 of his past 66 attempts (43.9%), and 15 of his past 39 attempts (38.5%). His overall success rate is *42.4%* and this is his 792nd attempt so far. For the sake of comparison: Betty has matched 19 of her 38 attempts (50.0%), Charles has matched 34 of his 70 attempts (48.6%), Richard has matched 335 of his 791 attempts (42.4%), and Brett has matched 30 of her 71 attempts (42.3%). Neither Avery Schreiber nor Barbara Rhoades has yet answered a H/H question. *Today's H/H question: "________Sausage"* (I can't think of much. Blood sausage. Summer sausage. I'm pretty sure vegetarian sausage wasn't a thing in 1978, ditto for turkey sausage. Beef sausage? Pork sausage? I have no clue. I'll say "Pork.") This question didn't throw Richard. He finishes quickly, and seems to be reading Betty's suggestions after he's filed his card. Wow! Our sophomore champion gives the same answer I did: Pork. The audience is pretty quiet today. I wonder what they're thinking of? (It's funny, because I also matched the champion in the regular game when I answered "driver" for the Greyhound question. Edit: Now this is getting spooky! For the final question, I said "giraffe," matching only the champion once again!) Richard opts for "Polish." Now that I hear it, I think it's better than my answer. No H/H match today. ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 wins in 7 attempts). Betty - 50.0% (19 wins in 38 attempts). Charles - 48.6% (34 wins in 70 attempts). Fannie - 48.5% (16 wins in 33 attempts). (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 42.3% (335 wins in 792 attempts). 42.2979% Brett - 42.3% (30 wins in 71 attempts). 42.2535% Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1158, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. *Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. (These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. Note: There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036.)

The "Duke of Earl" song was a Doo-Wop song of 1962 by Gene Chandler and not Sha Na Na like Avery was saying. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nme4madsbs1rf9U

Sha Na Na also covered it, so Avery was correct.

@@sdlively27: Yeah, it's annoying to me, though, that he and the panelists were so unaware of even the most notable rock performers and most popular recordings, particularly since they were all in show biz, and some of them were young enough to have grown up with the music. On one episode, the name Chuck Berry doesn't ring a bell; on another, the words "Sergeant Pepper" mean nothing to them. It's a proud, intentional ignorance, I think, that was common to those middle-aged and older. On the other hand, maybe I shouldn't let it bother me. I'm much the same with current music.
@sdlively274 жыл бұрын
@@timswain1815 Me too, I couldn't tell you what song is what nowadays.. I don't know Gene started off in radio but then fell flat on his own so he moved over to tv. I guess you would think that Tonight! with Steve Allen would have musical guest on so they would at least know that music. I guess if you don't have a career in radio at the time of the 50's or 60's you didn't know what was popular. I don't know what to say other than that wasn't the kind of music they liked or listen to. And then again I sometimes think Gene acted like he didn't know the song/show to bring some comedy out of the panel or just had a lapse in memory for something until someone reminded him.

Dayton Anderson, Costume designer, who worked as the extra costumer on the Star Trek: The Next Generation fifth season episode "Ensign Ro" in 1991. He also did other shows and movies.
@sdlively274 жыл бұрын
He mentioned Dayton Anderson a few times in MG73, the time that Mclean Stevenson came on stage with no jacket and Gene asked him to bring him another jacket for Mclean, and other times as well. And I don't know if Betty insulted him unless they edited it out, there is a strange edit when Gene goes over to intro the contestants..

Was this the first time that they brought back a contestant who had won one or more games previously? They brought back contestants quite a few times because of some "irregularity," but I thought the ones in the past had always been "one and done" contestants (i.e., contestants who lost their first game, and never made it to the super match).
@GizmoFromPizmo3 жыл бұрын
I'm trying to remember what the "irregularity" actually was. None of the comments seem to recollect it.
