There were some things about the set that they obviously tweaked a little later... the triangle and circle were filled in to green and red, the background behind the lower tier was changed to light blue, and vertical lines were added to the light blue background behind the contestants to match the lower tier. Also, the background behind the upper tier later changed to blue during the intro, but went to orange after the lights went down in the intro. Richard gave a slight smile when his Emmy was mentioned, as he obviously didn't expect Gene to mention it, especially considering Gene was also nominated, and Feud aired on a different network.

Richard Dawson spent three years between Match Game, Match Game PM and hosting Family Feud. Something had to give. But I agree: his departure from MG was the beginning of the end.

@hardestyrl5 жыл бұрын
@@nestorsuan2182 That you go on various Match Game videos to trash Richard Dawson is pretty tiring. I get it: you don't like that he kissed the female contestants. And, somehow, you're bothered that people regularly picked him for the head-to-head match. People picked him because he actually tried to, you know, match them so they could win money. He genuinely wanted people to win. So, if you wanted to improve your odds of winning money, you picked Richard Dawson.

But why did they want to replace the old set with this set?
@vjmlhds4 жыл бұрын
Because in the late 70s going into the 80s, brighter more vivid colors started becoming more en vogue, and the orange/beige/earth tones that were prevalent throughout most of the 70s became out of date. Also, more and more people had color TVs by this point, where early in the show's run there were still a fair amount of B & W sets, so the plainer set worked better then

@@cutemimi25 Actually, if you look at the ABC set, it combines elements from both the original 1973-78 set and the 1978-82 replacement set. By the way, Buzzr is having a "Match Game" marathon on January 6, 2019 beginning at 11:30 AM EST. It will have episodes from the 1960's, 1970's and 2016-present. It is unclear whether or not episodes from the 1990-91 incarnation or the 1998-99 series will be part of it, but judging from the commercial, it doesn't seem likely.

The Criss-Cross pattern looks both very Southern, and also very Scottish. Maybe I just pay too much attention to flags.
