Right after Gene starts asking Naomi about her family, and just before he reads the question again, you can hear a loud laugh in the background. Per an interview I saw from Marcia Wallace remembering this show, that laugh was from Richard Dawson, who leaned over and saw Marcia's answer just before she put her card into the slot. That's also why he is laughing like he is just before Marcia shows her card... he was the only one besides Marcia who knew what was coming.

I believe Gene also knew. While the answers were being written, he clearly says "Wrong," then he's seen moving from behind Marcia. He mentioned that he thought there were some good answers, suggesting that he knew them as appeared to be the case. I believe he knew as well, but it was his job to not give too much away.

The only other time I've heard Richard laugh like this was the Family Feud episode where a contestant answered "September" during Fast Money...

There were at least two cuts, possibly 3, around Marcia revealing her answer and the aftermath. They didn't want to show ANY of that! 13:15 (maybe?) 13:20 13:24

Miss Wallace later on said that not was her answer cut (and OOPSed) but immediately afterwards a whole bunch of Match Game bigwigs made a beeline to her seat and told her that she had not used a' Match Game word' and that she was NEVER to attempt to use that term ('genitalia') again if she ever wanted to be invited back to the show! I guess they edited ALL of that out!

Besides the "OOPS!" there must have been something cut out afterward because I don't believe for a minute that none of the other celebs commented on it. Edit: After listening to it again, I can definitely hear a cut in the audio when it cuts from Dawson to Rayburn walking toward the contestants. You have to listen pretty closely, but it's there. Yes, I have too much time on my hands.

Martin Pitts In GSN documentary "Behind the Blank", Marcia was interviewed. She mentioned writing "genitalia", and then it cuts to Brett Somers' interview as she says "and they said 'cut!!!' "

I think she also mentioned that Ira Skutch the producer came out and then let her know in no uncertain terms that she'd be banned from the show if she ever did anything like that again.

Also in Behind the Blank, they said that they had to stop tape-which only happened once or twice through the entire 73-82 run. I can imagine the panic in that control room 😆

How was it arranged to tape these shows around the rest of everyone's else's schedules, like Richard Dawson? Wasn't he doing Family Feud full time and the other actors were doing their own shows?

Jackie Phillips A weeks worth of episodes were shot in one day. They'd break in between tapings to change outfits to give the impression it was a different day. According to Brett Somers' interview on the Best of Match Game DVD they shot 5 episodes on Saturday, 5 on Sunday and they breaked for two weeks before coming back to shoot more. I'm not sure of the scheduling for FF but I'd assume it was on a different day of the week or perhaps they were done in the two week break that Richard had off from MG. Like MG, I'm pretty sure they'd shoot 5 episodes or so of FF.
