How about this for a forward line? 7- Currie 8 - Bowles 9 - Worthington 10 - Marsh 11 - Best. All you needed to do was entice them out of the pub and on to the pitch! I've also got Hudson in the squad in case Bowles didn't turn up.

Frank Worthington could play. I mean really play football.

Same game in name only ....just look at the pitches and the ball got heavier as the game went on .

Three minutes plus on Tony Currie and two minutes on Wortho and then only showing a fraction of what he did. Someone doesn't know his football. I'd put Frank close to George Best in ability. But he was part of an unfashionable team - albeit a given that they could wipe the floor with any club - if they all had a mind to give a performance.

Richard....you’re clueless mate. Currie was the finest showman around. The complete player.

Okay, my comment on the entertainers is this (but note only in relation to the vacuous 'shooting stars' and not the all time greats like Best, Law, Dalglish and Keegan, etc). Stan Bowles, was just a fancy player who had no substance at all was out of his depth at any level about Loftus Road, his performance in Italy when we lost 2:0 to and failed to qualify for the 1974 world cup, was proof enough. He was massively out of his depth. And so, in the same era, was Frank Worthington - can you imagine these two seriously being part of a world cup winning squad like Charlton, Moore and Banks? I think not - imagine Worthington trying to flick the ball over Beckenbauer's head and volleying it into the net. Dearie me!! Rodney Marsh was slightly better, but still looked good only against inferior opposition. The only one I think could have made it against quality international opposition was Tony Currie, who had substance as well as talent.

I can only assume you never saw Frank Worthington regularly play live. I did. His touch was world class. With non-entities like Keith Bertchin, Mick Channon, Wayne Entwhistle, Stuart Pearson and the like picking up caps during the 7os when Worthington couldn't even make the squad, it's no surprise England went into a tailspin.
