My prediction, well it is not really a prediction. My hope is for both players to play their best form and as always, may the best player win because all of us viewers want to see the most exciting chess games possible with the least number of mistakes and least predictable draws.

It will be a psychological battle no matter what form or preparations each player has made. If one player can get a few wins to start, the other will be on the back foot and having to fight to stay in. A lot will depend on the intelligence gathering and opening preparations ability of the two contestant's Seconds.

Before the 1972 Championship match, Fischer had never beaten Spassky. They had played 5 games -- two draws and three wins for Spassky.

@@USChessFederation - I think so . . . and for the same reason. Spassky (and now Ding too) lost the match before it even started. Ding is completely in his head. I expect him to lose a game early due to nerves, and then crumble under the pressure.

Ding..after winning and being second best... trying to fool others. He has been working on his game all along. He will defeat gukesh...and again go in coma or sickness to prove world he is helpless. The prized possession he has he will not give it to anyone.. Carlson just said. I don't believe in this number one and tropies...hence ooted out as no competitors... Carlson is not playing..mental game to this effect of Ding. Carlsen knows when to lose and win...Ding should focus on that and not play emotional drama, just practing behind doors gathering info how others play.... Olympic was not his goal his goal is this match...And has been bullying everyone...If he lose..he will be an active player or leave chess...

I see your point, but that isn't the kind of person ding is and seems very unlikely. However, you never know what the chinese government can make him do...
