Fond memories of making this as a kid and playing with it for ages. It's basic but can make a very nice kit with modern materials and skills.

I am totally with you on the sanitisation, they have even deleted the swastika from the tail, if that's not distorting history I don't know what is. keep up the good work and keep on telling it like it is, cheers.

i really don't like the later box for two reasons the sanitised picture , which airfix did and the loss of the end swastika which even though its a sign of terror but also a Norse rune and a hindu religious symbol

Terrific looking kit, simple but good looking.

These are in such a great condition that if you didn't mention their ages and i was a newcomer to the hobby and i didn't know about Matchbox i would swear these were brand new kits..👍👍👍👍

Same with Roy Cross artwork...The beginnings of a woke culture me thinks...Those exciting 70's days are long gone but I'm glad I lived through it cos it was a total blast that we didn't realise at the time...As a muralist in the art ind. myself for 35 years I wrote to Roy Cross and he replied with an autograph and a nice letter now framed with a print of his unsanitised night Lanc landing (you know the one) hanging on my wall...Checkout James Mays interveiw with Roy Cross...Brilliant!

I remember the 70s and 80s which now seem like a lifetime ago. I’m not sure we have progressed in a positive way but here we are and a bit of modelling nostalgia is always welcome. Congratulations on your correspondence with Roy Cross and I’m sure your signed artwork from him is a prized possession. 👍

Yes ! One of my favourite Matchbox kits. Looking forward to seeing these completed as you've planned. I have one in my stash that I want to build as option 1, ( Kommando Novotny ), but in a RLM 74, 75, 76 camouflage scheme which I think is the correct colours for that time. Built & painted one in that option in my early teens, ( I was a kid of the seventies which ages me ), & I was really chuffed with how it looked when finished. I also have an M/box BF109E that I want to finish in the Romanian Air Force scheme as I've always liked that more colourful option.

It’s a nice kit I have built a couple of these. I like that you have the option of the fighter bomber version and the fighter version.

Saludos

I build some of these early Matchbox kits,the Me109, the Hurricane II (before it there were only the awfuls Revell & Airfix) the Cobra and the Gladiator. From what I knew, the "sanitization" of the front images happened because in some countries there were complaints about the guns firing and enemy aircrafts going down(!). But what did they were expecting from military aircrafts in a combat situation ?

В 80 - е годы эти модели были вершиной мечтаний...неосуществимых.😢

I remember making the 73 version. Framed the pic and put it on the wall. I paid 75 p for the kit. Happy days❤❤❤

I've gone down the rabbithole of re-collecting all the old Matchbox builds of my youth (that's what my local model shop stocked, and they were so much nicer to build than Airfix). The box art sanitisation ticks me off, but then I have had many a fallout with the marketing department during my working life - they know sooo much better than creative people... 🙄

I bought the original at the raf st. Athans air show (sadly now long cancelled) in 1977 when i was 7. One of the first kits i built unassisted by my father, no paint just the multicoloured plastics with bombs and the decals steaight on. Was awesome then and still is now, i still think its better than the revell kit thats still being made.

Stay tuned for a build video of this kit.

The memories ♥ I have the one on the right, bought 40 years ago. Still can't get over the fact it's a tail-sitter 😂

I will try to avoid that error. 😁

thank you for your video, as a collector, I'm looking for unscensored kits/decals/boxes only (if available) even they are harder to get. The changes you showed were the subtle beginnings of cancel culture we face nowadays.

The sanitising of kit box artwork was just a historical blip. Have a look at Airfix's current range of kits. Plenty of action on the box art there.

Yeah but what about Swastikas?...bet that is still 'sanitised'!!

And by 1979, it seems it was already forbidden to show the unspeakable symbol in the airplane tail...

Certainly better than the Revell and Airfix ones of that era. Heller did one that was better, I think.

Hi. This is what happened when Revell took over the running of Matchbox. Revell being a German company did not want to glorify war so they sanitised all of their box artwork. Effectively wiping away history , they completely failed to realise that it was the artwork that attracted the young modeller. Allowing us ' kids ' to use our imaginations and live out our fantasies. What a shame.
@creativetimewasting6 ай бұрын
Totally agree, the artwork was the starting point for many young modellers to learn and explore History. The artwork also had definite educational merit.
@anjkovo21386 ай бұрын
It's the box artwork that makes the difference for me. I hate the sanitised box art we have these days. I mean the models we build are war machines in action and should be shown that way not as you say shown as a fly by from an airshow. Pollitical correctness ruining our joy
