Hi I love your restorations. I live in South Africa and it is nearly impossible to get beautiful vintage matchbox and hotwheels cars here. I have a small collection but more the newer models I will love to have a older model for my collection.

When I was a kid back in the 60's my mother (who was a single parent after my dad was killed) used to take me to the toy store every other Friday on payday and I got to buy one matchbox car. I was around six years old when this tradition started and it continued for around three years. We rarely missed those Friday afternoons together and I ended up with a great little collection. My favorite's were the Lotus, Ford GT and the Ferrari Berlinetta. Really loved the occasional non-car Matchbox, like the VW Camper, Jumbo Crane and the Tractor Shovel. My dad had been a car enthusiast and that was probably my mom's way of keeping his memory alive. I gave my collection to my son and he passed them down to his son and I would love to add the Cortina to my grandson's collection. Fantastic restore job you did. Thanks.

At first when you showed the car with just the green color I was thinking it needed something more. Then you showed it with the black stripe. That did it. It was more impressive. Looks more like a sleek street racing car. Nice job. Thank you for sharing.

I was a car cleaner in the early 1970s. As a cleaner I cleaned many MK 2 Cortina's. Very popular seller. We had to pretty much restore used versions to good as new, involved cleaning interior, boot, engine bay via electric Steam cleaner. T-Cut full body. Wheels painted with aluminium paint and tyres painted with tyrewall black. Wonderful memories of this car.

Smashing job it looked like the sort of paint job some of my mates give theirs when I was in my late teens and doing a roaring trade fitting their cars with stereo tape machines and CB's.

Enjoy your channel! I've been doing this for almost 40 years. Never ever filmed one. Mine generally go to the children's wards at hospitals. Big difference in the way I started doing it to today. I love seeing how others do it. Your car I would keep with the few I've kept. But some day after I kick the bucket they will all end up in the hands of children once again!.

I almost didn’t watch this because I thought it was a boring old Mk 2 Cortina. I’m glad I did, now. I loved the result and your choice of wheels was spot-on. I’ve got a bunch of old ‘70’s British Fords I’m customising too. One of these is definitely going to be in the collection.

Love that one. First car I remember being in was a mkII Cortina belonging to my Dad’s best friend. It was a four door in duck egg blue. I can still remember the smell of the vinyl seats!

Hi Rob, great work as usual, customs are generally my favourites. I think the spider leg cracks are actually stress fractures where the plastic is at the point of breaking, we have a similar effect on vandal screens on the buses. Keep up the great work Kiddo as it takes me back to my childhood in the late sixties and early seventies. 😎

You may want to consider clear coating the bases. They origionally had a very thin layer of electro-plating. Left bare after wire wheeling, it will turn dark. Great job!!!

A very nice restoration/modification, and the final result is very handsome. The Mark II Cortina was the best of the lot as far as looks were concerned, and from what I understand they were mechanically quite simple. Anyway the Matchbox casting was very crisp and it is a testament to the quality of this casting that a restomod 50 years later can look so fantastic. It would be nice to win this so that I can place it alongside my own restorations as a challenge and an example of how to do it. Keep up the good work.

Nice, subtle custom. I restored a rare "narrow wheel" Superfast Ford Capri that was originally purple, but I modified it to mimic my 1st ever car when I turned 16 in 1981, which was a 1973 Ford Capri in red with a black interior.

Beautiful detail there mate. I always had a soft spot for the mk2 Cortina. My grandad had one and the last time I saw him was when he took me and my brother on the ‘electric brae’ in Scotland. The spot is an optical illusion where you think you are going uphill but it’s actually down. We stopped and while facing up the slope the car rolled forward with the engine off. Weird!!

That is a nice custom Rob , that green is like the forrest green that was used in the 68 Mustang on Bullit, with Steve McQueen , l think you should've just painted the bonnet black , but a fantastic job over all 👍

The Fird Crtina MK2 were my first and 3rd cars. The MK1 was my second car. My first MK2 was a grey 4 door back in 1980 and my 2nd MK2 (3rd car) was a blue 2 door 1.6 in 1982. That one seized on the scrap yard pad outside the scrappy gates. lol. I loved the Cortinas. My MK1 was red with a white lotus stripe down the side. That was back in 1981.

I always thought Matchbox put a lot of effort into this model. The detail on the stripped and polished body is very realistic. I voted to restore this one, having had one as a kid. I must say the customising was kept to a minimum, and amazingly, the colour reminds me of Ford Goodwood Green, a popular colour choice for the Mk 2 Cortina. Very impressive job.

1st. Superfast was late '69. Only 5 were were converted to SF wheels. By '70 most of these "transitionals" were converted. Transitional thin-wheeled MBs have been the focus of my collection for maybe 20 years, so I was bummed to see the SF wheels tossed! :-) The #25 Cortina started w/regular wheels and "Auto-Steer" front steering in biege metallic. The beige metallic Superfast Cortina is fairly rare, as were many of the early transitionals with their regular wheel hold-over colors. My #75 Ferrari SF in green goes for mucho bucko's! A very fun era of MBs to collect and am looking forward to some RESTORATIONS of trasitionals in the future!!! :-D Dave from "New England" USA !

We owned one when we first married. Drove the hell out of it for 6 years. Had the engine rebuilt and drove the hell out of that. Wore out the last of every part the dealer had. When we had it repainted we went with British racing green with a yellow roof and yellow racing stripe.
