That looks BETTER than it did when brand new. I have a particular attachment to this model - I was given one when on holiday in Scotland, in 1966, when I was three. It's about as far back as I can remember. At the hotel we stayed at, were some slightly older kids, one of whom had the CORGI 'Sharknose' Ferrari, which they let me play with. On their last day, their dad gave me the Matchbox Ferrari to remember them by. That sort of thing you never forget.
@WheelsNThangs6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That is an awesome memory to have. I remember very little from my youth, that's so cool to have a moment like that at the age of 3. You don't still have it do you?
@brianartillery6 жыл бұрын
Sadly, no. It did get played with a lot. Lesney Matchbox made a couple of other Formula One cars of similar construction, too. Yes, anything further back in my memory than three just isn't there. My late father drove us up in a brand new maroon coloured Ford Cortina Mk.1, by the way. And it rained a lot.😄

My favourite Corgi of that era was the blue Cooper-Maserati. Beautifully detailed for the time (it wasn't for another 30 years that I realised that Corgi's design chief at the time was none other than Gerald Wingrove - in his own right probably the finest car modeller there's ever been)! Corgis from the mid-60s to early 70s were almost always drafted by him, and in my opinion, 'toy' cars have never, ever been more accurate.

I purchased two more of these Lesney Ferrari 73s on eBay today for about $11 each shipped. Maybe I will restore one someday but the cost is prohibitive. By the time you buy all these paints, strippers, lacquer thinner and decals you have $70 in the little car. Of coarse you have enough product to restore a couple dozen lol. eBay always has these ranging from $5.99 to $175.00 depending on condition.

The real 1962 Ferrari F1 was truly a remarkable race car. The overall design of the car gave one the impression it was moving, despite the fact, it was standing still. A very loud engine with twin exhaust, the car won numerous racing events. However, like many earlier F1 race cars of this period of time, speed, not safety, was the order of the day. We lost many great drivers because of the very poor safety standards of the day. Not only the cars, but the tracks as well. Still, this was my favorite time period of racing. The drivers, the cars, the tracks and the beautiful women. It was truly a playboy sort of sport, with this devil may care bravado. Drivers rarely ever went to a wreck unless it was to try a save a friend. I had this 1962 Matchbox Ferrari F1. Oh I was probably about 4 or 5. I remember how beautiful that red was and those gorgeous wire wheels. The driver, as I recall, looked awesome. With his helmet and goggles. I dreamed about racing with that car. Played with it endlessly until I got bored. Of all my most favorite Matchbox cars, this Ferrari F1 was indeed my favorite. It just had this wow or cool factor the other cars didn't have. To prove my point. Later when hot wheels became more popular, I raced my Ferrari F1 against my friends Hemi Cuda and spanked him badly in the loop. We raced three times. I won all 3 and his Cuda. That little Ferrari F1 was and is amazing. Hopefully one day, I'll find one to display. Great video🚘

Awesome restoration man. If ur interested, this is a Ferrari 156 'sharknose' raced in 1960 and 61 f1 seasons. It was the first Ferrari mid engine/rear wheel drive race car, but most importantly it won America's first f1 drivers championship. Phil Hill won the world championship driving this car. This chassis was retired after a fatal crash involving Phil's co-driver, Wolfgang von Tripps. As was usual for Ferrari in those days, once a car was obsolete, it was destroyed, there are no surviving Ferrari 156's. Which is unfortunate since its my absolute favorite car of all time. Again, amazing work.
@WheelsNThangs6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ken! That's unbelievable that they would never make it again. So they only had the one chassis for two seasons of racing?

@@WheelsNThangs as I understand there was either 5,or 7 total cars. But records seem to contradict themselves at the factory. There's rumors of ONE surviving car, but nobody has ever seen it.
