Glenn, what in the actual fuck man? How come you don’t mic your hi hat and rides ever??? I’ve always wondered this for years while watching your show and this video is evidence that you should. The ride and hi hats sound way better then only overheads. Yeah I know you said your limited on inputs, but honestly the sound that is achieved, compared to no spot mics, is way more cutting and clear, and would be worth the extra cash into extra inputs if it were me. I personally think that for metal music, having a defined ride and hit hat is essential and I never record drums with out them. Sorry for the rant 😂 rock on brother 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 EDIT: just re listened to the clip with the spot mics... probably your absolute best drum tone you’ve ever had, even while lacking the room mics. In my opinion of course

GLENN!!! Nice presentation of these mics! A friend of mine who runs a small studio probably will be adding these to his drum room. One question, have you ever tried, or heard anyone suggest to you, to hang some kind of sound deadening, like even a blanket or a packing blanket, in front of the speaker cabinets to minimize the low mid resonance that they may add to your drum room tone? Second question, along the same lines, is that a sliding glass door set right in front of your drums? Because I would assume that you would want to put some kind of sound deadening in front of that acoustically nasty glass panel in each side of the door. Just a thought I had.

Maybe a little late to this game, but I purchased 2 sets of these back in October of 2020 and I have had massive WiFi RF issues with them. Lewitt said it was a known issue on a bad batch and replaced them. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem :/ Any recommendations on getting rid of it? I love the mics, but I've had too many scenarios where they're completely unusable

Hey Glenn, wanted to ask about, yeah, samples. For example, I'm recording drums with GJ technique, and one song needs huger toms. What if I set tom mics and ask the dummer to record toms exclusively and make my own samples with his kit, hands, etc. Then cut them and align with his original performance. I guess it will be way more natural and alive and would be good sounding, but I would like to hear your opinion. Thanks and good luck from ex-Soviet Union!

Hi Glenn. Greeting from the Brexit. Hope all is well. I’m not gonna go into introducing myself and boast my CV, having been a pro FOH in most major Venues in London and Studio guy, even teaching sound engineering in east London for 20 years and then running my own studio in Portugal For 5 years.... ah crap and god damit. I did it anyway... Shuks! 🙀I do actually have a question that I hope might interest you. With modern production techniques and all these great studio tools, hardware and soft, what would you say is the threshold between budget gear with hyping it up in post, and really high quality gear (like a 4000£ mic for example). I mean the law of diminishing returns. I know it’s a complicated question as certain equipment can be great at low cost, like the behringer small mixer for recording metal Gtr. But, there has to be a limit to what cheap vs top shelf gear can do and where does that lie? The Spider of course would be a great example of utter useless shit. I remember years ago working in Camden, and the manager bought Spiders as the basic backline for the Venue, and oh my god was that a nightmare. Especially for sound guy who’s trying to do his best and people keep coming up to you asking what’s wrong with the sound!?!

Mics. SDC's in most part have less low freq than LDC's. There are exeptions, but not that many. Also, do not hi pass OH's with GJ technique more than 60-80 Hz, again, because you'll lose toms. What I did when I recorded GJ with sdc is automated OH on tom fills to make them louder. But with LDC's especially wich have good low end, you can actually get decent amount of toms.
