I hate to keep on saying this, but everybody seemed much happier on the Match Game PM show than on the daytime version. Even and especially Richard. I just loved this show.

I wonder what happened to my comment. It's disappeared, along with the post it was responding to. I just wanted to say that the exchange starting around 5:00 was lovely. Richard clearly felt indebted to Sheldon Leonard, who looked delighted by both Richard's comment and his imitation. Very sweet moment.

The show Richard Dawson is talking about, that Sheldon Leonard gave him his first part, is The Dick Van Dyke Show. That's what Richard said when he entered the writer's office.

It might have been Hogan Heros because Leonard produced that too.

No, definitely DICK VAN DYKE. He mentioned Carl Reiner's advice, and Carl was the creator and producer of the Van Dyke Show. Besides, I know that episode! Hello, lovey!

Racy Tracy Rattigan. Tried to make a move on Laura. Great tidbit.
@Observer-jw8wv5 жыл бұрын
@@TigerzLionzPistonzWingz No, it's absolutely the Dick Van Dyke show. He told that story many times, including on his TV Legends interview, although I've never seen him tell it as warmly as in this episode. He was clearly thrilled to be able to tell it with Sheldon sitting there. And Hogan's Heroes was produced by Eddie Feldman, not Sheldon Leonard.

Richard's impersonation of Sheldon Leonard was funny, and so was Fannie's British accent. Isn't it interesting that the male contestant's name was Leonard Bernstein (no relation to the conductor).

That voice and accent got Sheldon lots of work during his salad years, before he moved into television production. What a guy!
